Lillia
I was never expecting to find my mate, I assumed I was too broken to be blessed with one. How did I end up with this one? And an insanely attractive Alpha at that. He’s very tall, and muscular. His hair is dirty blonde and sometimes falls in front of his green eyes.
Now it makes sense though, because I was fated to someone that doesn’t even want me.
At the very least, I’m away from my mother.
My mother, who beat me anytime I tried to speak as a child. Who kept me locked away in the back of her strip club, for my entire life.
I haven’t uttered a single word since I was 2 years old, 20 years ago, but by then she was just used to abusing me, and continued it for any reason she could find.
She said it was too dangerous for me to speak. I don’t know why, and now my body physically can't do it.
I want so badly to speak to Cassian, beg him to let me stay here, explain my backpack of cans. I know he hates that I’m who he ended up being fated to, I wish I could make it better, or change who I am.
For now, I’m basking in being in this cozy house, in the comfiest bed I’ve ever experienced.
I fall into a deep sleep, and wake up a few hours later, feeling the best I’ve ever felt.
When I sit up and stretch, a simple red sundress falls off the foot of the bed and onto the floor.
I’m guessing Cassian left that for me to wear. He didn’t seem to like seeing my body, which is odd because didn’t he go to the strip club every night?
He’s difficult to please, but I’m doing my best.
I put on the dress and it's a little baggy, but it works.
I open the room door and peer out into the hallway. It’s empty, but the door across the hall is cracked open, and somehow, I just have a feeling.
I slowly push his door open and poke my head in. I can see his black hair against the white pillowcase, so I make my way over, and I’m halfway worried that I’m going to find another girl in his bed.
Luckily, he’s alone. Sleeping soundly. I tap his shoulder, and his eyes blink open.
“Oh f**k, hi,” He seems startled by me.
Oops, was I not supposed to come in here?
“Oh good, you’re wearing the dress.”
Thank god I made the right choice by putting it on. I’m already sick of him acting weirded out by me.
“Do you need something?”
I shake my head.
I don’t know, I’m awake and I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. This is my first time ever leaving the strip club, what do normal people do all day?
He rubs his face and sits up, with his legs hanging off the side of the bed. He takes my hand and rubs his thumb on mine.
I love it when he holds my hand, it gives me hope that he won’t get rid of me.
“Do you want breakfast?”
I nod my head, feeling excited to discover what kind of food they eat here.
Rimi used to bring me different kinds of food to try when she came in for her shift. She was my only connection to the outside world.
Cassian grabs a shirt from his closet, “Alright, let’s go downstairs.”
I follow him down, and am amazed to see a big dining room, with a fancy looking wooden table. There’s already big plates of various types of food on the table, on big serving platters.
“You can come down here anytime you’re hungry, okay?”
I nod happily, did I die and go to heaven?
I prance over to a seat and sit down. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do, just grab whatever I want? I’m worried I’ll get scolded if I try that. So I wait for someone to give me permission.
Cassian sees me waiting, and takes another one of those big breaths he always does. Then he comes over and starts scooping things onto my plate.
I wish he would have just told me I could grab stuff, instead of acting like I’m physically unable.
He takes his place at the table, but it’s far away from me, all the way at the other end. Is he tired of me already?
He’s focused on his phone while he eats his food. I wonder what has him so enamored.
He’s so enthralled by his phone, that he doesn’t even see me get up and start looking over his shoulder. It looks like he’s texting five people at once, and he’s typing so fast I can’t keep up.
I sigh, and that’s when he gets startled.
“Agh, f**k Lillia!” He yells.
I hate it when he yells at me, what did I do wrong?
I step back, cowering, trying to look small. Sometimes that would keep my mother’s wrath away.
He sighs again, and pulls me onto his lap, then continues his texting. It feels so nice, but I’m so confused. He’s mad one minute and then he’s letting me sit with him the next?
Still, he hasn’t hit me yet, so this is still better than being with my mother.
I watch his phone while he texts, trying to figure out what he’s talking about to these unknown people. One of the threads has my name in it. Does he think I can’t read? Or does he just not care that I’m reading it?
He keeps switching back and forth, and I’m getting frustrated. So I grab the phone from him, and open the thread that I saw my name in. I only catch a few glimpses before he snatches it back.
“Her name is Lillia”
“She doesn’t talk at all”
“Frustrating”
“Reject her”
His strong fingers pull it out of my grip in a second. “What’s wrong with you?” He scolds.
I frown at him and try fighting him for the phone back, but he stands up and knocks me off his lap.
“Stop!” He commands.
I screech at him in frustration, and run back upstairs to my room.
