Cassian I blink my eyes open, the morning light peeks through the curtains, and Lillia remains sleeping soundly on my chest. Her backpack of birthday cans make noise in the bed when I shift my feet, reminding me that I’m a total ass that yelled at her and sliced through her arm on her birthday. I’m definitely taking the day off to try and make her happy today. Waking up next to her is already a perfect start. I stretch my arms, and she flinches, opening her eyes. “Good morning, beautiful.” She looks up at me with those big brown eyes. It almost seems like she’s asking me a question. Her clothes are still tattered, and I know that she’s been wearing them for more than a day now. Why won’t she wear the clothes that I bought for her? “Baby, can you change your clothes?” I ask softly.
