Chapter 2

348 Words
I woke up late for school today. Im really tired and really just ready for school to be over. If I hadn't failed 3rd grade I would be done by now, but here I am. I rushed to throw on clothes. Tossed my hair in a messy bun and stopped to check myself out in the mirror for a moment, I dont believe I am ugly at all, despite what the other students at school say. Im 5'2 with tan skin, I have light freckles on my face, brown wavy hair that reaches my lower back and bright green eyes, I am unfortunately a little on the skinny side, but i guess thats what happens when you only eat at school. I made my way through the kitchen, not even bothering to look for food, I knew there was nothing. The check that my foster mother Tina receives for me every month goes to alcohol and gambling, never for my actual necessities. Surprisingly she was awake and in the living room when I was walking out. I tried to keep walking and avoiding her all together, for her to be up at this time she must not have went to sleep at all. I almost made it through the door when I heard the rusty old voice yell my name, "JASMINE" I cringed and as I turned to look she was glaring at me so I hesitantly stepped back in to hear the poisoness words she was likely about to spew from her mouth. "Tomorrow is your 18th birthday.... 18th birthdays mean no more checks, which means no more free rides for you, you need to have a plan to have your belongings out of my house within two days" I looked down, and kept walking out. I knew to expect this. I knew she would do this to me and I meant nothing to her. Why was I so surprised? I was late for class already, although I did care about my grades and my success, my first stop would have to be to Dr.Sam.
