On the car journey home, everyone was really chatty, discussing the witches at the library. But I couldn’t get my mind off of what Nyx had said about me conceiving a child. I have to admit that I was beginning to wonder if I was infertile, I hadn’t fallen pregnant in almost two months, and my heat hadn’t come. For our species, if you don’t conceive on the night that you first mate with your mate, then your heat comes and you usually get pregnant. But if it doesn’t, then it is usually due to infertility, which is exactly what Zara went through. She has never had a heat before in her life. I, however, did have one when I first shifted.
