Chapter 9: The Devil's Heir Revealed

1558 Words
The day of the challenge arrived far sooner than anyone expected. By sunrise, the ancient arena had been prepared. It was enormous—a vast circular field surrounded by towering black stone walls carved with centuries-old symbols. Ancient flames burned along the walls, casting an eerie glow across the arena. Every seat was occupied. Demons poured through the gates from every corner of the kingdom. Demon hybrids. Low-born demons. Clan leaders. Warriors. Everyone had come for one reason. To see Lucifer's son. For twenty years, they had heard rumors. For twenty years, they had doubted. And today, they would finally discover whether Lucifer had been telling the truth. At the highest point of the arena sat Lucifer upon his throne. Aiden stood beside him. Lucifer looked completely relaxed. Almost too relaxed. Across the arena, Reynold sat proudly among the Demon Hybrid Clan. His chest was pushed forward, confidence written all over his face. He had spent twenty years preparing his son for this moment. Jamil was strong. Jamil was trained. Jamil was ready. And Reynold still refused to believe Lucifer had a true heir. The throne will be mine. He had convinced himself of it. He had no idea how badly he was about to regret that confidence. --- Jamil stepped into the arena. The massive demon bowed respectfully before Lucifer. "Your Lordship." Lucifer looked down at him. His expression barely changed. He turned slightly toward Aiden. "This is the contestant?" Aiden nodded. "Yes, My Lord. Jamil. Reynold's son." Lucifer studied Jamil for a moment. Then he almost laughed. "He's no match for Jayden." Aiden lowered his voice. "Jayden will kill him." Lucifer smiled. "They're playing a foolish game." His eyes swept across the packed arena. "They only want proof that I truly have an heir." Aiden nodded. "Exactly." But neither of them knew that someone else was already watching. High above the arena, hidden within the shadows, Jayden stood silently. His arms were folded across his chest. He watched Jamil. Then he smirked. This is my challenger? He almost felt insulted. --- Lucifer slowly stood. Immediately, every demon in the arena rose. Thousands bowed their heads. The silence that followed was absolute. Lucifer's voice thundered across the arena. "Twenty years ago, I issued an open challenge." His voice echoed against the ancient walls. "I told you to bring forth anyone you believed worthy of challenging my heir for this throne." His gaze swept across the clans. "Yet for twenty years, none of you dared." Some demons lowered their heads. Others shifted uncomfortably. "Today, however, you have finally gathered." Lucifer's eyes hardened. "Most of you believed I had no son." A murmur spread through the crowd. "You believed my declaration was merely a trick to keep you from fighting over my throne." He smiled. "Today, I will show you my son." The arena fell silent. "And he will prove before every clan that he is my true heir—and worthy of ruling this kingdom when I am gone." Reynold's confident expression slowly disappeared. Lucifer looked toward the contestants. "Is this the only challenger?" Silence. Then— "I will compete!" A deep voice boomed from the back of the arena. Every head turned. A massive demon stepped forward. His body was enormous, his muscles covering his entire frame. He was Lucas, a low-born demon. Jayden raised an eyebrow from the shadows. A low-born? He almost laughed. Even Lucifer's lips twitched. "You're welcome to join." Lucas bowed. "Thank you, Your Lordship." Lucifer looked around. "Anyone else?" Silence. He nodded. "Then these are our contestants." He turned toward the center of the arena. "And now..." His voice became deeper. "...I will present my son." The entire arena seemed to hold its breath. Lucifer raised his hand. "Jayden." The name echoed. Nothing happened. The demons looked around. Then the shadows at the far end of the arena began moving. Slowly. Almost unnaturally. Darkness crawled across the ground. The flames surrounding the arena flickered. A cold wind swept through the stadium. Then a figure emerged. One step. Then another. A young man walked into the center of the arena. The crowd went completely silent. Jayden stood with his arms folded across his chest. Pale-blue hair fell across his face. His skin was pale. His body was tall and lean. And his eyes... His pale-blue eyes glowed with an eerie crimson fire. He looked like Lucifer. Not similar. Not close. Identical. For a moment, the entire arena seemed frozen. Then the gasps began. "Impossible..." "He's real." "That's Lucifer's face!" "How?" Reynold stood frozen. His mouth fell slightly open. The confidence he had carried into the arena disappeared. His son stared at Jayden in disbelief. Even Lucas took an unconscious step backward. Lucifer smiled. He had waited twenty years for this moment. "I present to you..." His voice echoed with unmistakable pride. "...my son." He paused. "Jayden." The arena erupted into whispers. Lucifer slowly sat back down. Reynold clenched his fists. But then he stood. "My Lord!" Lucifer looked at him. "Speak." Reynold pointed toward Jayden. "How do we know this is truly your son?" The arena became silent again. "How do we know he's not some illusion you've created?" Aiden closed his eyes. This fool really wants to die. Lucifer's expression darkened. "An illusion?" His voice carried dangerous sarcasm. "You truly believe I would stand before my entire kingdom and deceive you with a child's illusion?" Reynold swallowed. "You possess powers beyond our understanding, Your Lordship." Lucifer smiled coldly. "Then come closer and decide for yourself." Reynold immediately stopped speaking. Lucifer turned toward Jayden. "Jayden." "Yes, Father." The simple words sent another wave of shock through the arena. Father. There was no illusion. No trick. The Devil truly had a son. Lucifer leaned back. "Raise your head." Jayden slowly lifted his face. He pushed his pale-blue hair away from his eyes. The arena fell completely silent. The resemblance was undeniable. Lucifer's features. Lucifer's expression. Lucifer's darkness. But Jayden's eyes were different. Pale blue. And beneath that pale blue... hellfire. He allowed his hair to fall back over his face. Then he stepped forward. His voice echoed through the arena. "I have watched all of you." The demons stared. "I never wanted your clan wars." He continued walking. "I never wanted your politics." His eyes moved from one clan to another. "But you made one mistake." He stopped. "You underestimated my father because you believed I didn't exist." Silence. "I have been here." A shiver moved through the crowd. "Watching." His eyes turned toward Reynold. "Listening." Then toward the other clan leaders. "Learning." His voice became colder. "I know everything you've done." A few demons exchanged nervous glances. "I've watched you form alliances." His gaze hardened. "I've watched you mate with other supernatural creatures in an attempt to create new bloodlines." Several clan leaders stiffened. "And I've watched you prepare yourselves for a throne that was never yours." His eyes returned to Reynold. "And you..." Reynold's face paled. "I know your plans." Jayden's voice sounded eerily similar to Lucifer's. Only deeper. Colder. More dangerous. "I've watched every one of you from the shadows." He stepped closer to Jamil. "I simply wanted to see how far you'd go." Jamil's fists tightened. Jayden smiled. "And now..." His crimson eyes flashed. "...you've come far enough." He stopped directly before the two challengers. "I am my father's true blood." The arena trembled beneath the weight of his aura. "I am the Devil's son." Darkness began spreading from beneath his feet. "And you have challenged my authority." His eyes burned brighter. "So today..." A golden glow briefly flickered beneath his skin. "...I will show you exactly what it means..." He smiled. "...to challenge the Devil's heir." Lucifer watched from his throne. Pride filled his eyes. But beneath that pride was something else. A secret only he and Jayden shared. Jayden could become a dragon. His true form was still hidden from the Demon Kingdom. And Lucifer had made one request before the challenge. Don't transform. Not yet. The kingdom wasn't ready to know what Jayden truly was. But Jayden had made a demand of his own. Aurora. The forbidden vampire-witch. She was still hidden in the Underworld. And Lucifer had been furious when he discovered his son had brought her there. Yet Jayden had refused to abandon her. Eventually, Lucifer had agreed. He would establish an alliance with the vampire and witch kingdoms and make it law that Aurora would not be harmed if she were ever discovered. It was a dangerous bargain. But Lucifer had accepted it. Because there was one thing he had learned about his son. Jayden didn't make requests. He made decisions. And Lucifer knew better than anyone what happened when Jayden's decisions were challenged. Now, standing before thousands of demons, Jayden prepared to face the first challenge to his claim. Jamil stepped forward. Lucas cracked his knuckles. The crowd roared. And somewhere deep beneath the arena... something ancient stirred. The ground trembled. Jayden's crimson eyes suddenly flickered toward the earth. For the briefest moment, he felt it. A strange presence. A power that did not belong to any demon. His expression changed. Then it vanished. Jayden looked back at his opponents. Later. For now, there was a throne to claim. And a kingdom to silence. The first battle for the Devil's heir had begun.
