Chapter 3

"Lucky my a*s, they all brought their dates and I didn't know rich people spoke a different language. I mean it was all English but I could barely understand what they were talking about. And I kind of made a fool out of myself. And then I suddenly made an excuse to go pee and I'm there in the bathroom trying not to cry my eyes out for making a fool out of myself." Mika sighed. "Look, it's okay, we all make a fool out of ourselves when we're close to people like that." Calista said, assuring. "You should see the look on Adrian's face when I pronounced jelly as jellin, I shouldn't have ordered it to begin with. I was just so nervous," Mika muttered. Calista let out a laugh. "It's okay Mika, we all make mistakes, it's not like they're gods or anything. Or maybe they're close to one." "You're not helping." Mika seethed. "I'm just saying, but anyways I'm sure Adrain will understand, he's dead, drop in love with you, you have nothing to worry about." Calista smiled. "Thanks, I needed to hear that" Mika beamed. "Now go back to your rich people party. Your boyfriend... I mean fiance, is waiting for you". "I know we got engaged two weeks ago, but still, you seriously have to get used to him being called my fiance" Mika scolded. "Yes mom." Calista teased. "Alright then, I just wanted to reach out to you and get a little word of encouragement, thanks for tonight Cal, now I have to go face the town's gods." "They are gods indeed" Calista laughed, and with one last bye, both ladies ended the call. "How lucky... Mika." Calista smiled, staring at her phone. Adrian and Mika had known each other for over a year, and they had met in the mall where Mika worked and how they clicked the first time they met. Seeing how he strangely fell for Mika, Adrain wasted no time in courting her. Calista sighed at her memory of when Mika had given her an earful of how she and Adrain met, and she couldn't help but reason how lucky her friend was. Turning back to her laptop, Calista tore the bag of doughnuts open and tuned in to her favorite movie. She wouldn't care to repeat ten times. The dinner was finally over and Mika could feel herself breathing properly as they walked outside and towards Adrian's car. Walking behind Adrain, she glanced up at him before breathing out a sigh. "Adrain," she called. The tall black-haired man in front of her turned around and she swallowed hard. "Yes?" Adrian asked, his very perfect features beautifying the night. "Are you mad or something?" Mika asked. "Mad? Don't be ridiculous." Adrian scoffed. "Remind me why I should be.." Mika couldn't tell if he was actually mad or it was the fact that his British accent had always sounded so thick. "I mean, I kind of made a fool out of myself tonight, and you haven't spoken to me since we left the hotel's restaurant" Mika gulped. "That is because, you wouldn't let me talk to you, you've been walking behind me ever since we left the hotel, I tried to slow down to talk to you but it seemed like you didn't want to talk to me. And what do you mean made a fool out of yourself.?" Adrian asked, taking a step forward. "I kept going off topics, I mispronounced words, laughed when no one did, everyone must think I'm a freak or something." Mika rolled her eyes. Adrian let out a laugh. "Nonsense, you were anything but a freak tonight." "Are you sure, cause I'm pretty sure everyone glared at me at some point." Mika laughed. "They didn't, now come on let's head home it's been a long day" Adrian smiled, and with a that he placed a soft kiss on Mika's cheek before hurrying to the door and getting the car door for her. It was Sunday morning, and the day started off with a cold. Calista was fast asleep when the sound of her ringing phone woke her up from her nice slumber. "Hello..." She mumbled into the phone, her voice croaky. "Hey Cal, wait! Are you still asleep? Did I wake you up or something?" Ray's voice could be heard from the other side of the phone. "Yes... You did and I am going to lose it because of you" Calista sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm around your neighborhood and I was wondering if you'd like to hang out." Calista paused to look at the time. 8:55pm. "I thought you would be busy today" Calista added, breathing out a yawn. "I thought I would, but turns out I'm free, so what do you say?" "I don't know... I plan to sleep in more and maybe by ten p.m I'll get my a*s off my bed." Calista replied. "So this is a no?" "It is... Thanks for calling Ray." And with that word, Calista hung up and closed her eyes to catch more sleep. : "Sir I am telling you, Mr Gasby needs this collaboration with us, and from his email this morning I could tell he was pretty satisfied with the dinner meeting last night, great job Noah." Boris smiled. "The dinner was okay, but next time, you're filling in." Naoh sighed. "What?" Boris scoffed. "Look Boris, I am the town's young billionaire in his late twenties and I have enemies, I could tell by attending meetings, not everybody likes me, so that's why I have to attend the good ones and save a seat for you at the bad ones, that's all am saying, and beside, I have this meeting with Conrad on Monday by 5pm, another with Kimberly at 3pm and also have to deal with the company's employee ". " wow. " Boris looked stunned. "What?" Noah snapped. "You know your schedule more than I do." "Of course I do, I mean it's mine to begin with, I don't actually need a personal assistant to be clear but maybe I just need someone to take a spot for me sometimes." Noah sighed. "That means you do need an assistant". "Okay let's end this conversation." Noah sighed. "How was the meeting with my dear Janice.? Did she like your company?" "Not really, she was grumpy and angry the whole time, she said she wanted to see you, and well, probably hates my guts for saying I was far better company than you", Boris breathed out. Noah laughed. "Are you trying to steal Janice from me or what?" "I don't know why I said that either." Boris smiled. "Anyways, I'll take a quick rest and then go see Janice later. You're excused." Noah sighed, taking a seat. "Will do", Boris said, and wasted no time in exiting the room. Noah threw up, seeing how Boris had left the room. He must have wanted to leave Noah's side for a while now. ~ The Sunday went away as fast as Calista could recall it and she recalled she had spent her day on cheese cake and a bottle of apple juice in front of her laptop, and then during the evening, she had gone out for a smoke in a small alley behind her apartment building. She had really promised to quit smoking at the end of the month and it had been three months ago since she promised herself that. He had a doctor warn her several times, but she couldn't bring herself to really quit, though she had reduced the amount she took in a day, before she would smoke about three times a day. But now she had lessened it up to once a day, with hope she would quit one day, singing the word 'baby steps' in her head every single time. If only curiosity hadn't gotten the best of her three years ago when she wanted to know why people got addicted to smoking, she wouldn't have ended up getting addicted. . After brushing her teeth that night, Calista threw a mint candy into her mouth before getting on her bed, which was clearly the only reasonable place her room had to stay. She had no other cushion, no TV and her room's space wouldn't be enough for a couch or even TV. Her tiny kitchen was not enough and her bathroom could do better. Since she was already used to such a confined place, she couldn't care less. Dressed in a perfect suit and with his perfectly jelled hair and his outstanding blue eyes matching the pitch-black suit. Noah checked himself in the mirror and his perfect lips curved into a smile. "Now thank you for setting the meeting up with Janice. Now I will go meet my queen in peace. You can go home now, Boris. It's 9:30pm", Noah added, walking away from the mirror. "Well, if you do need me with anything just call me and I'll be on my way", Boris smiled.
