Chapter 2

624 Words
Opening my eyes from the darkness, I was becoming aware that I was still sitting upright in my seat. Looking out across the hood of the car, the head lights were blinking on and off illuminating the darkness of the forest. Snow was starting to fall in the light. The only sound that could be heard in the silence of the forest, was the hissing sound was emitting from the engine. I looked over to where Malcom half hung thought the windscreen. I pulled at the seat belt, digging into my chest. He had probably saved my life holding me in place. I looked down at my body, only a few cuts from the broken glass. My bracelet I’ve always had, was gleaming on my wrist in the blinking light. I twisted the side of it, the shiny alloy swivelled out from the bracelet taking shape into a slender long sword. Using it in an awkward embrace, I was able to cut the seat belt holding me in the car. I twisted the same notch on my bracelet and the sword retracted into itself. I tried to open the door with the handle. Using my shoulder I shoved at it. The door sprung open, ejecting me onto the ground. Sprawled out the dirt, looking up at the canopy above me, tiny snow flakes drifting onto my nose from above. “Malcom” I called hoarsely, my voice seemed foreign to me. A grunt emitted from him.  I continued laying on my back, trying to get my bearings. My mind was not functioning properly, everything seemed slow. The impact had shaken me and I wasn’t thinking clearly yet, my body did not seem my own. Malcom would recover from the impact soon enough and we can be on our way. A creak, and thud sound pierced the silence. I winced, remembering that something had run into us. Struggling to sit up, I pushed myself up onto my side. A low growl came from behind the car. I willed myself to look around to where the sound came from. A huge boulder of a wolf loomed up from behind the back of the car. The red brake lights illuminating parts of its body, giving it a red luminescence movie quality to the scene.  “s**t”  I pushed myself up from the ground in a push up position, with us much effort I could muster. My feet swayed under my body. I started backing up slowly, trying to put some distance between me and the advancing giant wolf. Another growl roared behind me. I turned my head quickly to see another wolf standing near the front of the car, coming out from behind the tree we had run into. This one just as large as the first. I glanced over at Malcom still laying flat unmoving on the bonnet of the car. “Malcom… Malcom… time to wake up and do you vampire thing you do and help us”. The first wolf growled again, pouncing like a cat at me. Time went still again, I ducked and weaved out of the way, the wolf sailed past me. I turned to face the two wolves now, as I did, I twisted the notch on my bracelet and my sword slid out into my hand. The first wolf had realised I turned and immediately turned around and jumped out at me again. The second wolf went low at me. With a half side flip I jumped, and spun in the air, swinging my sword as I flew. Landing on the ground with a very ungraceful landing, both of my legs gave way underneath me, making me fall to the ground again. Sprawled out in the dirt.
