Chapter Two: Getting ready

1090 Words
Iris was leaning on the sink waiting patiently. “Ready kiddo?” She beamed. “Yep, let’s get out of here.” I shrugged. “So what are you gonna wear tonight?” She asked. “I really don’t know. I don’t have anything to wear.” I admitted. “We will think of something, don’t worry.” She calmed me. I nodded and continued to panic the three mile trip back to the house. I thought maybe I could get away with wearing my prom dress, but I felt like people might notice. Iris pulled into our driveway, and I saw my mom’s car in the driveway. I was confused what was going on, she’s never home early. I hurried inside thinking something was wrong. I rain up the steps, and practically broke down the door in worry. Mom sat in the kitchen waiting for me. I looked around her and saw all the making for a complete makeover. About a dozen cans of hair spray two curling irons and hair pins as far as the eye can see. “Hey sweetie, come sit so I can start your hair.” Mom beamed at me. I tossed my bag aside and my hoodie, I knew arguing was not an option. I sat in the chair in front of her, Iris had come inside carrying boxes. One large white box, one medium size and one small box. Iris had started helping my mom do my hair they worked in silence, when they finished with my hair. They started painting my face, I swear they were putting war paint on. “Okay, now it’s time for the dress,” Iris whispered in my ear. She hurried over to the bigger box and brought it over to me. I opened the box and my mouth fell open. It was the prettiest dress I had ever seen. It was made of silver silk, with sequins, all over the dress it was a spaghetti strap with a sweetheart neckline. Excited to put on this beautiful grown I hurried to the downstairs bathroom. I undressed as fast as I could, being careful of the pile of curls on my head. Once I put this dress on I was in love. It was buttery on my skin. The neckline fit me perfectly, the back of the dress swooped to my waist, it was floor length and clung to my curves. It had a slit up the side exposing my thigh, this was so elegant and sexy. I walked carefully out to the kitchen where both women smiled at me and handed me two more boxes. The medium sized box held stiletto heels with the same silver sequins. I slipped them on and it had made me way too tall. I was already five feet and seven inches tall, I felt like I was gonna hit my head off of something. Mom handed me the last box, I opened it and inside there was a small silver handbag. It was only big enough to carry my wallet, house keys and phone. “How did you afford all of this?” I asked. “We saved for it, we wanted you to have a shot at happiness. I know you gave up your college money to save our house and I am so sorry.” My mom cried. I hugged her and felt the tears in my eyes. “Don’t you dare cry!” Scolded Iris. “You look absolutely perfect!” I smiled and got myself together. Iris held a camera in her hand and snapped several pictures of use together then mom snapped a few of Iris and I. I heard a horn outside. “Oh honey, your rides here. You better go.” Mom kissed my cheek and waked me to the door. The car the sat outside was a black SUV, I knew this car it picked me up all the time. Bryn! I wanted to run to her car but I knew better than that. These heels will kill me if I do that. I walked to her car and before I could open the back door the driver got out and opened the door. “Felix?” I asked shocked. “Miss. Kinch, you look lovey tonight. Let me get the door for you.” Was his only answer but he winked at me. The door opened and inside sat Bryn in a red mini dress that looked painted on. She smiled widely at me when she saw me, Felix helped me into the back seat. “Oh, you look so pretty!” Gusted Bryn Once I got into the car she handed me a medium sized velvet box. I opened it to find a beautiful jewelry set. It was a Turkish moon, the star was a diamond, the earrings were dangling shooting stars, and the bracelet was the moon phases and between each one was a small diamond. I felt the stinging in my eyes that told me tears were coming. I tried to take a deep breath and calm myself so I didn’t destroy my makeup. I put the earring in and Bryn helped me put the necklace and bracelet on. “Thank you so much,” I managed to get out. “If anyone deserves it, it’s you. You help everyone and gave up so much already. So maybe the Alpha isn’t your mate, but maybe one of the guard is. This party isn’t just for the alpha it’s for all of his guard. Having a mate makes us better warriors. We take less risks and are more level headed. We have something to lose so we are fight twice as fierce.” Felix explained. “I didn’t think about that,” I mused. “Thin of it as a late birthday present if you want,” giggled Bryn. They had already given me a a birthday gift but, I decided not to argue. We were pulling up to the mansion and Felix pulled to the valet parking sign. He got out and I waited for him to open the door. He opened the door and stuck out his and for me and then did the same for Bryn. He flicked his keys to the valet and walked into the mansion. We walked in and saw an older man handing out numbers I registered my name and was handed a card that read 303. That was my number my stomach churned as I headed into the large ball room.
