Lyra’s POV My consciousness returned slowly and the first thing I felt was a pounding in my skull, and the second was something soft under me. I blinked a few times until the room came into focus. The ceiling above me wasn’t mine, the scent in the air wasn’t mine. This was Kael’s room. My heart sped up. My head throbbed harder when I tried to sit up, so I stayed down and lifted my hand to my temple. It was bandaged. The door opened before I could gather myself. Kael stepped in with a cold expression. His eyes scanned my face, then the bandage, then the rest of me to check for injuries. “You’re awake,” he said. I swallowed hard. My throat was dry. “What happened?” “That’s what I want you to tell me,” he said as he approached the bed. His voice wasn’t gentle but it wasn’t harsh either,
