Tuesday Mel woke up from the alarm shrilling next to her ear. A song that she heard on the radio about a month ago had already started turning from a cheery catchy tune to a reminder of being an adult with an adult schedule and adult responsibilities and the volume of the alarm did it absolutely no favours. She sat up, stretching her arms above her head and looked at the bedside table, frowning a little. The digital clock displayed a string of nonsensical numbers instead of the time and it took her a second to realize that the power must’ve gone out during the night. At this point, it was almost a regular occurrence. Whenever it was too hot or rained too much the electricity just went out in the whole city and could stay gone for a few minutes or several hours and no one really understood
