Chapter 9: Blessing

787 Words
My birthday had finally arrived, and I am now five years old, which means I will be getting my blessing this year. Every noble child who has hit five years old will receive their blessing in the church. The church would do it anytime as long there wasn't any ongoing special occasion, and of course you would have to pay a large sum of tribute, 500 Gold Coins. As for commoners, they receive their blessing on a special day where the church give out free blessing service once a year, but nobles will never seek such way even if they had to pay 500 Gold Coins for each of their child. Why do we all need to receive a blessing? Well, it's not mandatory by law but you have to receive a blessing if you want to see your own status window. Also, there is a chance that you will be granted a special ability by God, abilities such as Divine Protection or Appraisal. Today, I will be going with Mother and Caine to the church to receive my blessing, we have already booked an appoint and sent the tribute beforehand. I'm rather curious about the blessing. Since I am able to already see my status window before age five, which is considered impossible by the general populace, and I already have two ability in my special abilities section, which is also considered impossible! Huh? Mother's expression… "Mother, what's wrong?" I asked Mother, who had a worried expression on her face while holding Raine. Raine was looking at the scenery through the window of the carriage this whole time. Her eyes seems to sparkle at the changing scenery. "Ah! Caine…" Mother stopped talking and bit her bottom lip. She was clearly hiding about something, but I won't pester her to tell me if she didn't want to. "…" A few awkward seconds had passed by and Mother finally sighed then asked, "Caine, what happen if you find out that you don't have any mana?" I suddenly blanked out, I didn't expect Mother to ask such question, but if I think about it ever since that day after finding out I don't have mana. Mother had ordered all of the servants to not speak out about this. Normally it would be shocking to find yourself without any mana, but I already know that. Wait hold on! What am I saying? I do have mana! It's capacity is 1,000,635,000! "Caine." Mother suddenly embraced me with one arm while the other hand hold Raine. "Huh, Mother?" "It's alright, Caine. Whether you have mana or not, you are will always be my child." Huh? That's not what… Sigh, it seems like I should pay a bit more attention from now on. I always blank out whenever I think about something. .. It didn't take long for the three of us to arrive, since the church isn't very far away from the Lord Mansion. We exchange our greeting with the people in charged and was then led inside. Inside the church was a huge empty hall, the windows were all made out of colourful glasses. At the end of the hall was a 6-metre-tall statue. The statue had a well-built body, it had long hair that reaches down to it's shoulder and a oversize bear that looked as if it was made out of clouds. One of the statue's hand was slightly stretched forward with a long staff that had a rainbow-coloured crystal on it. I was told to go up to the statue and hold the staff with one of my hand to receive the blessing, and so I slowly went up and reached out to the staff with my left hand. As soon as I touched the handle of the staff, the rainbow-coloured crystal immediately light up and a intense wind suddenly blew forward towards my face. The wind was so strong that I had to keep my eyes shut. What is this? They never told me something like this would happen. "…" Couple of seconds later the wind finally settled and so I opened my eyes. What?!?! I was surprised, confused, dumfounded. What is this place? Where am I? In front of me was a huge planet, it was about the size of a mountain, but I know it was much bigger than that since there was a large distance separating us. I looked towards the planet in front of me which didn't seem to rotate at all. Seconds later I became shocked again. That land, I know that land! It was a huge island that I remembered from my past life, the first time I saw it was from really high up above the sky, but even then it still looked like a size of a plate. Where I am now, the entire island looked no bigger than the size of a grape! "Caine Von Rustichel" An middle age man's voice suddenly echoed behind me, causing me to flinch.
