Joseph and Patricia Prato appeared stiff and uncomfortable as they shifted in their chairs. They were not used to luxury or opulence. Being in the Halverson home for the first time was overwhelming. But they were secretly happy. In the previous years, Fredrick never invited them to see Caitlin’s parents. Perhaps because he was ashamed of his upbringing. Or perhaps because the Halversons were ashamed that their daughter was dating a native. The Pratos did not know why they were isolated from this part of their son’s life. But today, the past didn’t matter. When Edgar Halverson extended an invitation, the Pratos eagerly accepted.
