Manuel Hidalgo walked into his modest home and turned on the living room lights. The house was eerily quiet. His wife, Carmen, was cooking dinner. Like many of their family members, friends, and neighbors, they both worked at Honeywell assembling thermostats and other electronics for the company. Carmen arrived home alone earlier that evening.
