Rajinder’s mother is still holding her trembling figure and says: “I remember that when we had a fight over you, he said that he would always protect you. Today, over the dead body of my child, I promise that I will always protect you and your honour. I will always protect the child you are carrying and regardless of the gender, this kid will be my Rajinder. I will love you two as much as I can and will try my best to love you as much as I loved him.” Gurpreet calms down a bit. However, the calmness is not because she has relaxed but because she lost consciousness. Zain runs out to call the doctor and there is a chaos in the silent atmosphere of the room.
The doctor comes rushing to the room and other people also follow the suit. The see that a woman is holding a young girl with her head in her lap and is crying. As soon as she sees the doctor, the old lady cries out: “Doctor, save my daughter. She is pregnant.”
The doctor starts the procedure immediately and pit her on a bed. At the same time another person enters the room and says that they will have to take Rajinder out. Rajinder leaves the room for good while everyone is trying to protect the two people he has left behind.
Food for Thought
Why are goodbye so difficult? Why is it so difficult to let people go even if they tear our heart apart every day? Why can’t we let go of them? Why?
Rajinder’s father looks at his wife in confusion as he asks: “What is she doing her?”
She answers: “She is our daughter now and she is carrying his child. They got married in a secret ceremony.”
Rajinder’s father has tears in his eyes as he says: “This is what stubbornness leads to. He did not see his happiness and we lost him too.”
Rajinder’s mother: “But I will not lose them.” She turns to doctor and says: “Is she fine?”
The doctor: “She fainted because of the stress and the uncertain news. How is she?”
Zain says immediately: “She is Rajinder’s wife.”
The doctor: “We have given her some relaxants and it is better for her to rest. Otherwise, both the mother’s and kid’s life are at risk.”
Food for Thought
Why is it so difficult to let go of our ego and bad values? Why is it easier for us to let people go than our egos? What is more important: egos, happiness, or people?
On one side people are getting Rajinder ready for his last journey and on other people are praying for the survival of the two lives he has left behind. Gurpreet regains her consciousness after a while and starts sobbing again. Simon has reached the hospital by that time too and she has come to know about everything. She is also in the room as Rajinder’s mother says: “I do not know how to handle her. If this continues, things will be too difficult to handle.”
Simon: “Can I give it a try?”
Rajinder’s mother: “You can try.”
Simon: “Can you all leave us alone?”
Everyone leaves the room and Simon comes forward and sits on a stool near the bed while tears are running down Gurpreet’s cheeks constantly. Simon holds her hand and says: “You are beautiful.”
Gurpreet: “Is it worthy of anything?”
Simon: “Your heart is beautiful too and it is the most expensive and valuable thing in the world.”
Gurpreet: “People are never going to look at that. They talk about what they see, not about the reality”
Simon: “And they see what you let them see.”
Gurpreet looks at her in confusion as she says: “Madam, all these things are bookish. Reality is far away from this.”
Simon: “I have to live in reality every single second. We do not have room for imagination and fantasies; hence, it is not much bookish.”
Gurpreet: “Madam, I am not you.”
Simon: “We both are ladies I think.”
Gurpreet: “Madam, they are going to call my kid illegal, and the society will reject him or her. You are not a mother, and you will probably not get how much it hurts if people question your kid’s identity.”
Simon: “I may not be a mother, but I understand your concern for your dignity and honor.”
Gurpreet: “You can say it but you are not in the situation.”
Simon: “My situation was not the same as yours, but I have also passed through a time when people questioned me and my identity.”
Gurpreet looks at her intently as she listens to what she is saying.
Simon: “I was r*ped and people said it happened because I stepped out of my home, and I wore not so traditional clothes. Some called it consensual, and others said that I was too desperate that I could not control myself. Some also said to my husband that I cheated on him.” From the surprised look on Gurpreet’s face, Simon realizes that she does not know about her wedding. Simon continues: “I am married. I am Rajveer’s wife.” Simon looks at now even more surprised Gurpreet. She says: “We got married after our college. It has been nearly six years now. After the incident, I killed that guy. He used to work in my office. Only two people were fighting for me: Rajveer and Ranveer. One was my husband, and the other was my childhood friend. They fought for me even when I lost trust in myself, and I was nothing but a mess. The court set me free, but I was bullied every day. I quit my job and closed myself in a room. People also said that I was not having a baby because after the kid I would not be able to do what I liked and what job I did. That was never the case. I had to quit my job. I am saying it again I was nothing but a mess. However, there is no end to this darkness. If you let it consume you, it will swallow you whole and you will be standing there with empty hands. I have been there; people say a thousand words based on their mentalities and they see in people their reflection. You are sweet and pure, and you know that and the people who really matter know that then why are you putting yours and your kid’s life at risk by thinking about those whom you will not even see daily and those who do not even matter.”
Gurpreet: “I am so sorry to hear about what you went through. How did you keep up with all this?”
Simon: “Rajveer made me realize that the people who mattered were standing with me. One thing more, you are lucky to have a baby. There are people out there who are unable to conceive. Someone’s death is not in our control but someone’s life and what they go through in this life because of us, or our actions are absolutely in our control. Do not make this world a living hell for the one who is about to come. The kid does not even know the meaning of legitimate and illegitimate, she or he will know what you will tell them and what you will show them. be the version you want your kid to see and do not give up this thing so easily. Darkness is a quagmire and a mess and eats you from inside as well as outside. Do not let it consume it. Also, the choice is yours if you want your kid to be a fighter or a victim and it all starts today.”
Gurpreet: “Thank you so much. You helped me ease my pain a lot.”
Simon: “I am here for you. Just promise me one thing that you will not tell anything to anyone. no one here knows that I am married and about my relationship with them. I hope you will understand.”
Gurpreet: “I will never tell it to anyone. never in my life.”
