The next day

Rajveer comes out of the room and sees that Ranveer is already sitting there having a coffee.

Ranveer: “You are ready?”

Rajveer: “Yeah. More than ready.” The glow on Rajveer’s face was telling the story of reunion and of how much he had missed his wife. He was now more than happy to be back with her. They were separated for a year in which they had seen each other only twice. Simon was working in a different province before shifting here.

Ranveer: “Isn’t Simon coming?”

Rajveer: “She is getting ready, and will be out in a while. She said that if we were getting late, we could leave.”

Ranveer: “We can wait for a while since it is still five-thirty in the morning and the station is not far away.”

Soon Simon comes out of the room: “Are we ready to leave boys?”

Rajveer hands her coffee: “After that.”

Simon addresses Ranveer: “Why do you look so worried?”

Ranveer: “I am worried about this case. I do not know how this is going to proceed but I am sure there has to do something with power.”

Rajveer: “It has only been one day, and we are working on it together. Today we will have new stories and the test results will be out too.”

Simon: “I will go and check how far are we in the post-mortem. I will also track the entire road as there are blood stains at different points. I will also investigate the shopkeepers today. Do not worry.”

Rajveer: “I know this case is very important to you, but you should not panic about completing this as soon as possible. It has many layers. Also, we will most probably be done with Amma’s story today.”

Ranveer: “Do you think there is something wrong with her?”

Rajveer: “You can not trust anyone. We should get a background check.”

Ranveer: “I have asked Rishi to do that. He will submit the report by tonight.”

Simon: “Boys we are getting late.” She hurriedly moves towards the door after putting the cup on the table. “Follow me.”

Both the boys run after her and try to overtake by saying: “No, you follow me.”

They used to do this when they were young. They would run to overtake the one who was ahead because they all wanted to be the leaders. All three are doing great in their respective domains and are leading and making their way.

Ranveer sits in the driving seat, Rajveer beside him and Simon in the back seat. It is six when they reach the station. No one in the station knows that Rajveer is Simon’s husband. They just know that a new female police officer has taken over the position. Female police officers are rare in the area and Simon is the second one in this place. Rajveer is a bit worried about her.

Rajveer: “I will follow you back in a bit and Simon I need to talk to you.”

Ranveer nods and walks away. He knows that Rajveer is very worried as it would be wrong not to know your friend’s behaviour when you have been together forever and have passed through every thick and thin.

Simon: “Is everything fine? Why do you look so worried?”

Rajveer: “Do not take me wrong. I am more than happy to have you here with me, but I am a little scared. The area has not had a female officer in a long time and the people do not know how to deal with them. I am worried that if they misbehave with you?”

Simon moves a little forward and wraps her arms around Rajveer’s neck: “You do not have to be worried I have my man here, who will protect me and besides”

Simon is about to complete her sentence when someone calls from behind: “Besides that, she is a badass b***h who can take care of herself and can frighten people to death.”

Ranveer is out there with his hands in his pockets and smirking.

Simon smiles: “That surely I am.”

Rajveer smiles and gives her a peck: “I know you, just be careful and I am here. Do not try to be a wonder woman all the time. Just give me a call and I will be there.”

Simon can sense what was wrong and says: “Okay, I will be careful. Do not worry now and let’s kick it all.”

The three of them enter the station. Rajveer and Ranveer go to the room in which they were yesterday, and Simon moves to another room. On her way she calls out a constable and says: “I need all the records from tomorrow in my room now. We will leave the station at 10:30 AM for the field research again. Get the team ready.”

Rajveer whispers in Ranveer’s ear: “Indeed she is a bitch.”

Simon gives them a pointed look and goes to her room.

Ranveer: “Rajveer, call the people at Amma’s home and get her here. We need to get done with it.”

Rajveer: “Ok.”

Rajveer: “They will be here in a while.”

Ranveer: “In the meantime, we will look at the testimonies of other people.”

Rishi enters the room with a report: “Here are the testimonies and profiles of people who were at the site yesterday.”

Ranveer looks at them and then moves to the green board in his room. He puts the pictures of a few people on the board along with their names. One of them was the farmer who owned that land.

Testimonies

The farmer who owns that field:

“My name is Laal and I have a small room on the land in which you found the body. I live there with my wife and a daughter. The night before I did hear some screams. I thought they were either because of the storm or because of the witch that lives in the village and threatens everyone. When I enter the field in the morning, I saw that the field had been destroyed and my plants were ruined. Sir, I am a poor man, and that land is the only source of food. I do not know what we will do now. When I walked a little more to look at the destruction, I saw a dead body. I immediately started screaming. After a while, people from nearby fields came and called you as I was in shock. I do not know anything else and neither did I see anything. This is all I know but I believe that the witch has done this.”
