When Iris came to and opened her eyes, her sight was instantly blinded by the bright light inside the room. She never liked the lights, she preferred her sight in the usual complete darkness but she knew her eyes would quickly adjust to the brightness. So she closed them again as she now sat up on the cold floor she'd been lying on. As she opened her eyes again, she felt a searing pain across the right side of her face. She lifted her right arm and placed the palm onto her cheek, pressing it slightly to try to ease the sting. She then looked around and saw the wooden torches, etched high onto the four walls surrounding her.
