Chapter Four

1004 Words
"Miss Vanessa!!!" Sarah calls, running across the field. Face flushed red and glasses hanging precariously from her hair. How it had gotten tangled was a mystery. "By the heavens Sarah! What has you running so fast?!" she stumbles while catching a breathless Sarah but managed to stay on her feet. She was surprisingly light considering how much she ate. But she'd been blessed with great genetics. Unlike her who had to constantly watch what I eat or risk looking fat. As someone who was always in front of a camera, she could not afford to look fat. To escape the cameras and the tabloid headlines, she and her assistant Sarah along with her bodyguards and driver flew to Oregon where she had a cabin. A beautiful garden was being grown there and it was finally time to bloom. It was a perfect excuse to leave Chicago and retire to somewhere quiet. She'd managed go a day without any news and she could not be more grateful. So Sarah's behaviour was a little startling. "What is it?" Vanessa asks, her voice soothing and Sarah found herself relaxing. "Mr Tristan has brought home Miss Olivia and officially announced their engagement to the media" she gushes in one breath then sucked in a deep breath and exhales loudly. Then adds " It was an official declaration" For a moment Vanessa said nothing. Physically she appeared fine, but internally her world was crashing down. Tristan had publicly humiliated her. She could already see the headlines. Why would he do this? After all these years, why do this now? No answers were forth coming to her questions so she picked herself up and looked Sarah straight in the eye. Stunning the girl. "Tristan is an adult and has made his choice. If this is what he wants, then we will respect it" She puts the dazed girl back on her feet and dusts off invisible dirt from her blouse. "We will finish our down time here, only after Will we tackle the issue that lies in Chicago. So for the meantime..." She gently takes Sarah's iPad from her" No more of this " "But..." Sarah tries to argue but Vanessa places a finger on her lip. "What happens in Chicago is Chicago's problem. This is Oregon " Sarah opens her mouth but words fail her. She could only imagine how devastated her boss felt. It was easy to see Vanessa loved Tristan with everything. And at first, it seemed he felt the same way. But things began to change after he met with that b***h Olivia Olsen. After embarrassing her boss by sleeping around, he crowned it all by bringing her to the house. A home he and Vanessa built from the ground up, he let his mistress in. What in the world was he thinking?! "Understood" Sarah sighs in resignation. As much as she wanted to, this wasn't her fight. She'd silently support her Boss for now. "Thank you" Vanessa's smile brightens as she hands over the iPad. "Do you mind giving me a moment?" Sarah nods and hesitantly walked away. Left alone Vanessa wandered the lengths of the field. Her heart heavy but her head empty. As if sensing her turmoil, the sky darkened and giant rain clouds filled the sky. The wind picked up, wiping her hair in her face and her dress everywhere. Lightning chased after lightning and thunder followed in a weird game of tag. The flower buds bowed to the wind to avoid breaking and being blown away. Fallen leaves rose in the air, forming small tornados of wind and dry leaves. She stood in the midst of all this, marveling at nature's fury. If only she could be this angry, rage like mother nature. Maybe Tristan would finally understand how she felt, Maybe he'd snap out of whatever daze he was in. But a nasty thought occurred to her, something that made bile rise in her throat. What if? perhaps maybe Tristan really loved Olivia? On cue, everything died down and the rain began to pour. They were having a child, something she hadn't been able to give him. A part of her was happy he could finally be the father he always wanted to be. Another part of her resented it. She lowered herself to the ground. Not minding the dirt or the rain pouring down on her. She sat on the floor crying, her sobs concealed by the sounds of the poured rain. Abel one of her bodyguards upon realising she wasn't in the house, rushed to go find her only to be stopped by Sarah who stood at the balcony keeping a watchful eye on her Boss. The entire thing was so cinematic she wondered if she had 3d goggles on. Never had she heard of nature doing an interpretive dance on someone's emotions. She didn't need to be near to know what her Boss felt, the winds had been very clear at interpreting it. "Let her be" she says softly "But she'll get sick" Abel protests "Give her time" Taking one last look at her Boss, she turns and walks back inside. She'd need a very hot shower and hot tea. Abel watched the field, concern spelled out all over his face. He could make out her figure curled up on the floor far off from the cabin. He may be newish to the household but he could clearly tell his boss was a pleasure to work with. So he hated to see her in pain, especially over a man who clearly could not see her value. "If you really want to be of help to her" Sarah returns with a towel and a hot cup of tea "Be patient and watch how she spins this" "You really think so?" he mutters accepting the towel from her. She nods then turns to the field again. "Go get your boss back here " she commands "That's enough wallowing in sorrow for one day " Abel grins "Yes ma'am "
