Lyra walked into her room and took out a wooden box from under the bed.
She opened the box and there were different notes with scribbles on them, files containing information about different people, pictures of different people with different markings on them and a map of New Moon City.
All this information was the work of the previous Lyra.
The jobs she had carried out as a detective, the different markings on the pictures indicating whether a particular job has been resolved or it is still under investigation.
A particular picture caught her eye. It was a picture of her brother, Thane.
Her brother was kidn*pped by some rogue werewolves when he was the age of ten, and it was till another fifteen years before they got to meet each other.
Two years ago, she met her brother in an awkward situation, where he was the leader of the rogue werewolves that had been disturbing New Moon City.
Lyra had never expected such unforeseen circumstances.
She thought her brother would have been dead all this time.
Lyra returned all the information to the wooden box, locked it and shoved it back under the bed.
She stood up on her feet and walked into the washroom to freshen up herself from the past few days she had been in the forest.
Done with her bathroom necessities, she stepped out of the washroom, walked to the closet and picked up a new set of clothes to put on, took her family's heirloom which was the last thing she had of her mother's, and wore it on her wrist.
Stepping outside, Lyra walked down to the streets of New Moon City. She was amazed at the sights of the city buildings and the sounds of the bustling city.
The streets were very lively with activities, people going about with their daily work and routines with great energy.
She took a long deep breath, inhaling the cool refreshing air flowing through the atmosphere, and set off to have a better view of the entire city.
As she walked, her footsteps synchronizing with the pavements, memories from Lyra's previous life flowed through her mind.
She thought of the different places she had visited, the familiar faces she had met.
Thanks to these memories, Lyra was able to acknowledge the people she encountered on the way.
"Good evening, Lyra! You are looking beautiful this pretty evening." a friendly voice called out as she walked past a market stall.
"Good evening Mama Grey! You are looking your best." Lyra replied with a smile, feeling a sense of being at home in spite of the bizarreness of her rebirth.
She continued her journey down the road, through the city, absorbing the views and sounds with great astonishment.
Recalling that she had to meet up with Freya at City Square, she changed her direction, and headed down the road that leads to the place.
On her way to City Square, along a busy crossroads, a messenger from The Council approached her with urgency in his eyes. "Lyra, The Council demands your presence immediately." The messenger declared to her.
Lyra's heart paused at the mention of The Council.
The Council is a powerful governing body that commands authority and responsibility to oversee, regulate, and make decisions for New Moon City, and their summons meant that an important matter needed to be handled immediately.
Lyra thought about what to do with Freya, knowing she would still be waiting for her, whereas she couldn't make it any longer.
She decided to ask the messenger to assist her with relaying a message to Freya in City Square.
Following the messenger, Lyra arrives at The Council's headquarters.
The building was very majestic and commanding, its architectural design reflecting the power and authority it held over the city.
Before walking through the door, she turned to the messenger and asked him to relay the message to Freya.
"Could you help me send a message to Freya? She is in City Square. Tell her I will not be able to make it down there. The Council demanded my presence." The messenger bowed his head a little as he replied to her, "No problem."
She looked at him in appreciation, before walking through the huge headquarters door.
Entering inside, she was greeted by the huge space in the council chamber and the members of The Council sitting at the very far end of the room.
She slowly walked up to them, looking at their stern expressions and curious gazes, wondering where she had been all this while.
"Where have you been all this time, Lyra?" One of them asked her, his voice echoing through the chamber.
"I've been exploring through the outskirts of the city, searching for any evidence, and carrying out vast investigations in regard to my duties." Lyra responded, calming her tensed nerves under their probing gazes.
"And how far have you gone into the investigation of your mother's disappearance? Have you gotten any important clues yet?" Another Council member inquired.
Lyra paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts on how much information she should provide for them.
"I've been gathering the little clues I could find and following leads, hoping to get better results out of the investigation. But there is still more to uncover," she explained.
"All right, that is good to know. We have another important mission for you to carry out, so we anticipate that you could pause on your mother's investigation at the moment until you are done with it. We believe that is not an issue for you." One of the members of The Council, who sat in the middle of the others and seemed to be their leader, declared to her.
"No it's not." Lyra responded with a firm and clear voice.
"Good! But there is an important question I want to ask you, Lyra, and I demand that you answer with all honesty." The same member spoke to her with a low-carried voice that carried a wave of command with it.
