Derrick's eyes widened in surprise as he saw Elder Thomas standing at his door. He hadn't expected to see him at this hour, especially not after the recent events with Annie/Shila."Elder Thomas, what brings you here?" Derrick asked, stepping aside to let the elder into his room. "May I come in, Derrick? We have much to discuss," Elder Thomas replied, his tone grave. Derrick nodded, a sense of apprehension gnawing at him. He led Elder Thomas to a couple of chairs by the window and gestured for him to take a seat. Elder Thomas obliged, his expression serious."What's going on, Elder?" Derrick asked, unable to keep the worry out of his voice. Elder Thomas sighed heavily before speaking. "Derrick, there are matters of great importance that we need to address, particularly concerning the recent events and the presence of Annie, or should I say, Shila?"Derrick's heart skipped a beat. He hadn't expected Elder Thomas to know about Annie's true identity. "How...how do you know about Annie?" he stammered, his mind racing. "Is she the Sheila that I know?" He asked, looking at him. Elder Thomas sensing he met went back to the way he was and decided to hide the truth. "You don't need to be bothered, Alpha Derrick. I think it is just because you are still in shock after how many years now. Sheila is back and you are lucky to have her in your arms. All you need to do now is protect and make sure she is unharmed." Derrick looked at Elder Thomas from the corner of his eyes. " I am not in denial that she is my fiance but what I am saying is that she looks different. She is even sick. Do you know that?" Elder Thomas feigned ignorance "I don't know. How bad is it? " he asked looking at Derrick. "Well, doctor Jayden hasn't said much yet but judging from her looks, she looks pale and I think she needs a lot of rest." "I will assign some palace workers to be at her neck and call. We need to make sure she is comfortable and well-looked after. Back to the main reason why I am here. Since you are back. I think we need to discuss the ascension to the throne. We can't just leave it vacant after so many long years. We need a ruler and as the firstborn son, it is down to you to ascend the throne and rule the kingdom. " Elder Thomas said, looking into Derrick's face. "I know but right now, it is bad timing." He replied "Bad timing? Care to elaborate on why it is? Because we need to have an Alpha who will rule. The neighbouring kingdom might use that as an opportunity to attack us. They might see us as a weaker kingdom and would want to challenge us." "I understand where you are taking this too. I am not saying I am not ready to be crowned the next Alpha but I need to sort myself out first. I need to figure out a way to cure Sheila and also know if she is the one my heart beats for." Derrick replied "Then what happens? Why are you in denial that she isn't your woman? After all, she has facial looks. What else do you need?" Elder Thomas voiced. "I need clarity. I am not sure the woman I am looking at is mine but I want to believe it's bad that I am trying to understand her. " "Okay fine. You have Sheila's blood sample right?" Elder Thomas asked. "Yes, Jayden should have that with him. I remember he carried some blood tests on her when she was sick. Maybe we can use that to know who Annie is. " Elder Thomas replied He prayed silently and wished the blood would match even though he regretted telling Derrick what to do. Greg paced the room up and down and his mind went to Annie. He prayed she didn't die while the other part prayed she did. " If she is dead then you can have your brother's throne to yourself. His sickness would surely relapse making you the next Alpha. Nobody would be able to challenge you. You have won. " His mind said with joy. "She is your mate, remember. Would you want someone like that dead? What makes you think the throne belongs to you even after her death? You are just going to help your brother warm up the seat until he is ready to ascend the throne. " Another voice spoke into his mind. "Why! Why!! Why should I be second all my life? I am tired of being second. Who has been the one keeping the kingdoms together? It is me. But when Derrick wakes up, they all forget about me who it is that had them protected all these years, I won't back down. I will climb what is mine." Grey shouted in anger. He felt a hand touch him and he looked back as he revealed a set of claws and fangs. "It is me." Helena said softly. "Why are you beating yourself up this much? The kingdom knows their Alpha and I am sure they will support you when the time comes. All you need now is patience and as for Sheila." She said gently, rolling her eyes. "As for Sheila? What about her? Tell me if you know something and stop putting me on hold." Grey shouted at her. "Will you at least calm down? I haven't gotten any information about her yet but I think she is in a critical condition. I am not sure she is going to make it. " Grey looked at her and part of his heart ached.."What is this I am feeling? I don't love her so why should I feel this way? " He said gently, sitting on the luxurious couch beside him. "Don't tell me you are worried about her, she is just a slave, a maid. Her face might be deceiving but I know she is not Sheila." Helena voiced. " How are you able to tell that? They both look alike. I would have sworn they are twins but we both know that Sheila is no twin. So what makes you know she is not who she claimed to be?" Grey asked, his gaze piercing her soul. " Sheila has a birthmark. I saw it the last time I came to visit her. God knows what happened to her. I am sure Annie is not having that. " Grey looked at her "How sure are you about this?" He was worried "I think I am one hundred percent about that. A word from me would see to it that she is banished or killed for impersonation." Helena said with pride. He looked at her and knew Helena would do anything to get rid of Annie even if it meant her death. "Keep this to yourself for a while. I need to confirm some certain things and make sure what you are saying is true. You could have yourself killed if your allegations are wrong. A lot of things could go wrong for me if you accuse her wing. Have you thought about that? " Grey asked looking at Helena who looked at him with a surprised look on her face, "Are you worried about me right now or you are worried about Annie or should I say, Sheila? You do know she is your brother's fiance?" Helena looked at his face. "What are you insinuating? I know that alright. Just keep this to yourself for the meantime. If your lips parted with those words and I hear around the palace walls. I will know it was your idea." Grey said looking at her face, [ HISSED ] "I thought you would be happy to hear what I just said but it looks like all you care about is Annie. Just remember this, she isn't your mate. I am more valuable to you than she would ever be. So get that straight." Helena said in anger walking out of Alex's room. The door slammed back making Alex furrowed his brows in anger. " Zane! Zane!!." Alex shouted Zane opened the door gently and walked towards him. He was not only Grey's advisor but also his beta. He has a cool demeanour and would always handle things wisely. Even though he was young. " How can I be of service, Alpha Grey." He asked, adjusting his spectacle. Grey looked at him " I need you to find out something for me and do that with discretion. I need you to find out if Annie has any birthmarks. Make sure no one finds you as you go about this. I don't want this leading back to me or Derrick knowing about this. " He raised his brows and looked at him " Are we clear on that? " He added.
