"Yes, Alpha." Zane replied. He was about to walk out of his room when he heard his master's voice. "And one more thing." Zane looked back and retraced his step back to his front with his hand behind his back. "What is that?" "Make sure you have Helena's mouth sealed. I know she listens to you, and I don't know why, but make sure she doesn't utter a word to anybody. Things may go awry from whatever she spills out of her mouth." Zane nodded and walked out of his room. He met Helena right outside with her ears pinned against the door. "What are you doing?" Zane asked, making her a little uncomfortable. "You can just ask me what we talked about rather than stooping so low to hear what we are discussing," Zane said, readjusting his spectacles. "Come with me." He said he was drawing her by the wrist. Helena looked back to make sure they were not being watched. "Can you let go of my hands now?" She said she was dragging her wrist from his hands. She clenched her wrist and looked at Zane in the face. "What is it that you want to talk about? Please don't tell me to protect Annie's secret because I know she is a fake." Helena spoke while Zane covered her mouth. "Have you thought about what could happen to you if your allegations are wrong?" He looked at her, awaiting a response. Helena looked at him with her eyebrows furrowed as she processed Zane's words. She knew he was just following Grey's orders, but yet there was a point in what he had said. . She hadn't thought about what would happen if her accusations against Annie were proven to be untrue. The consequences' weight pressed on her heavily, and a sense of fear started to enter her heart. "I never considered that," Helena confessed quietly, barely raising her voice. However, I am aware that she is not being genuine. I witnessed it personally." Zane let go of her mouth, but his expression remained firm. "Helena, it's important for you to exercise caution. Making false accusations could result in severe repercussions, implicating both Annie and yourself. Making errors is not an option, especially with so much on the line." Helena agreed, sensing a feeling of discomfort in the bottom of her stomach. She had been very confident in herself, fully believing that Annie was not who she claimed to be. However, upon being confronted with the actual circumstances, uncertainties started to emerge. "What should I do? We can't just stand by and do nothing while Alpha Derrick reaps everything we have worked our asses off for." Helena said it with a voice laced with anger. Zane sighed, his face showing understanding. Right now, do not share your suspicions with anyone. Allow me to address this subtly. I will dig deeper into Annie's past and verify the validity of your statements. While waiting, make sure not to attract any notice." Helena agreed, experiencing a wave of relief. She was aware that she needed to proceed cautiously, particularly because there was so much at stake. If Annie was indeed pretending to be someone she's not, then revealing her true identity would be a win for the group. However, if she was incorrect, the outcomes could be severe." Gratitude, Zane. Helena expressed her appreciation for your help; her voice showed gratitude. But deep down, she was ready to find out things on her own, even if it meant putting her life on the line. After Zane vanished from view, Helena found herself alone with her own reflections. She understood she needed to rely on Zane to deal with the situation, but the doubt ate away at her. She needed to find out the truth for Grey's sake. Helena had also dreamed of becoming a Luna right by his side, and she wasn't going to falter, not when they were this close to what they wanted. She had a nagging suspicion about Annie but acknowledged the chance of her being mistaken. Back in Derrick's chambers, tension filled the air as Elder Thomas and Derrick debated Annie and his ascent to the throne. "Derrick, I get your doubts, but delay only leaves us open to danger," Elder Thomas maintained, his voice resolute. Derrick nodded, torn by mixed feelings. He was aware that taking his duties as Alpha seriously was necessary. However, he couldn't rid himself of the sense that there was an additional significance to Annie being part of their group. "I understand, Elder Thomas. "I can't shake the feeling that there's something overlooked here," Derrick expressed, furrowing his brow in contemplation. Elder Thomas observed Derrick with a wise gaze. "What are you trying to say, Derrick? What are you keeping from me?" Derrick paused, finding it difficult to express his suspicions. "She's not the person she pretends to be, either Annie or Shila. I don't think you should be worried about any of that. She made you whole again and helped you regain sanity. Shouldn't that make her earn your trust?" Elder Thomas asked. There was a hard knock at the door, and their attention was shifted toward the coming sound. "Come in." Derrick said, his gaze still fixed on the door. A maid walked right in and looked at him with his head bowed. "Miss Annie is awake. She demands your presence, Alpha. " Alpha Derrick looked at the servant and back at Elder Thomas. "We need to go and see her right now. We would finish up our discussion when I was sure she was who she claimed to be." They both stood up and headed towards Annie's room. Derrick pushed the door open and, to his surprise, met Grey beside her. His countenance changed, and he looked at him and said, "What do you want, brother? And why are you here?" He asked with anger visible in his voice. Grey looked at him and smirked, "We both were the cause of her getting sick. It is only nice of me to come over and see her. I feel apologetic for what happened, and I am here to make amends. Is that too bad for me to do?" He said this, looking at Elder Thomas. "I can see you have been talking behind my back." Derrick ignored him and woke towards Annie, holding her hands. "I am here, baby. How are you feeling?" He asked, trying to hide the fact that he was doubting her being real. "I am fine. How long have I been asleep?" Annie asked, looking at everyone in the room. "A couple of hours. Let's say six hours max." Elder Thomas replied, looking at his wrist watch. Annie coughed while Derrick rushed to the glass jar on the table and got her some water. "Call me Doctor Jayden. Let him know his patient is awake." Derrick ordered the maid to be beside him. "Are you sure you're alright?" Grey asked again, and Derrick gave him a look that had him quieted. "Since you both are right here before me, I think we need to discuss the matter at hand. Or what do you think?" Elder Thomas voiced calm, calming the tension between the two brothers. "I think I told you to give me some time to get things sorted out. The kingdom can wait. You have waited for some time now. Surely you can wait for another couple of days or months." Derrick replied "Days? Months? Are luxuries that we cannot afford. Do you know the Red Moon Pack decided to attack us while you were sick? You want to know who had to step in? Me!. I still don't understand why you are being picked over me. This is not being fair. When you want things to get gone, you rush to Grey and bend the knee, accepting me, but once you have what you want, you forget the only person who made it possible. I think I deserve to be heard by all the chiefs and clan leaders. I won't sit back while you harvest the fruit of my labour." Grey looked at Elder Thomas and back at his brother. Derrick was about to reply to his brother when Jayden woke up in the room. He looked at everyone and noticed the atmosphere was tense. "Can you please?" He said he was making Derrick stand up from Annie's side on the bed. He brought out his flash light and flashed some light into Annie's eyes. "How are you feeling, Miss Annie?" Jayden asked, taking down some notes. "I am fine, doctor," Annie replied. Jayden looked at her and popped the question. "How long have you known about your illness?" He asked "What illness?" Derrick asked, looking at both Annie and Jayden.
