Chapter 8 Chapter Eight

Derrick looked at Annie and back at the doctor. "Can someone tell me what is going on?" Grey also looked at the doctor and back at Annie. He knew she wasn't feeling well, judging from her outward appearance. Jayden locked eyes with Elder Thomas and said, "I think I would need to speak with you in private." Elder Thomas broke the silence. Derrick looked at them as they walked out of the room and came back. "What are you hiding, Annie? "You know you can trust me, right?" Annie smiled, gently placing her hand on Derrick's. She could feel he was in pain. Grey looked at her and got up. "I need to leave now since you are feeling better. It would be good if you could confide in my brother. We could get you all the help you need to make you feel alright." He said as he was walking out of the room. Annie followed him with her gaze as he opened the door. She couldn't deny her attraction toward him, and she also wanted him. Derrick noticed the look and drew her attention back to him. "Sheila, I don't know how to put this, but you look different." "Different? How?" Annie looked at him, trying to make sure he believed she was Sheila. "I don't know, but I don't feel this connection between us. It almost looks like I am seeing you in a different light. The fact that Elder Thomas always gets your back bothers me a little too." Derrick replied with an honest tone. He looked at her again. "What is the deal between you and my brother?" He chipped in. "Grey? Nothing is going on between us. He is just being nice to me, I guess." Annie's response seemed unnatural enough, but Derrick couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. "I hope you're being honest with me, Sheila. Trust is important in a relationship, and right now, I need to know I can trust you." Derrick expressed a mix of concern and apprehension. "I don't know what you are hiding or what you are not telling me, but I know when the time comes you will talk to me. You have always been this way, so I am not bothered." Annie's eyes met his, and for a moment, there was a flicker of uncertainty before she regained her composure. "Of course, Derrick. You can trust me. I've always been here for you, haven't I?" she reassured, her voice soft and comforting. Derrick nodded, though his doubts lingered. He wanted to believe her, to trust that the woman he loved was truly by his side. But there were too many unanswered questions and too many uncertainties clouding his mind. Just then, Elder Thomas and Jayden returned to the room, their expressions grave. Derrick's heart sank as he saw the sombre look on their faces. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice tense with worry. He felt a little agitated and looked anxiously at the two of them. Elder Thomas took a deep breath before speaking. "Derrick, there's something important we need to discuss about Sheila's condition," he began, his tone serious. "You need to be strong and take heart." Annie's eyes widened slightly, and she shifted nervously on the bed. She didn't want Elder Thomas to tell him yet, "What about my condition? Is something wrong?" she asked, her voice trembling with fear. Jayden stepped forward, his expression grim. "I'm afraid the illness you're suffering from, Sheila's not something we can cure," he admitted, his voice heavy with regret. Derrick's heart clenched at Jayden's words. "What do you mean? Are you saying there's no hope?" He demanded, his voice rising with panic. Jayden shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry, Derrick. The illness Sheila has...it's terminal," he confessed, his words hanging heavy in the air. Annie's eyes brimmed with tears as the reality of her condition sank in. "But... there must be something we can do, right?" She pleaded, her voice choked with emotion. She was desperate to live, which was the main reason she left and came down to the Astral pack. She had been determined to look for the money the doctor had asked her for. "I think you are wrong here, Doctor Jayden. Are you sure there is nothing that can be done? I don't want to die; I still have a lot to live for." Derrick felt a wave of helplessness wash over him as he realized the gravity of the situation. "We'll do everything we can to make you comfortable, Sheila. I promise," he vowed, his voice cracking with emotion. "And I won't stop until I find a solution to this. I promise." Derrick said, boldly hugging Annie tight. Elder Thomas placed a comforting hand on Derrick's shoulder. "We'll need to make arrangements for Sheila's care. "We must also consider the implications for the throne," he added, his tone sombre. Derrick nodded, his mind reeling with the weight of their conversation. "I understand," he murmured, his thoughts consumed by the uncertainty of the future. Meanwhile, Jayden and Elder Thomas had planned to make it look like Annie's condition was not something that could be cured. "We need to make Derrick take on responsibilities and also stop doubting Sheila. If we could do that, then we can make him into the Alpha we want." "Why would he doubt his fiance?" Jayden asked, looking at Elder Thomas. "I just need you to be with me on this." They both agreed and planned to have Derrick tricked into believing Sheila was at the point of death. "I need to be alone," Annie said, looking at every one of them. They all nodded and walked out of the room. "You can call me if you need anything; I will station some maids outside your door. Call them if you need them." Derrick walked out of the room, looking at her. Annie broke down in tears and wondered if what Doctor Jayden had said was true. Annie picked up her phone and called Sarah. The phone rang as her heart beat fast against her chest. "Pick the goddamn phone, Sarah." She said she was rubbing her hair. She fell to the cold ground, sobbing and wondering if she was dying. "Can I see you for just a moment?" Derrick asked, dragging Jayden to a corner. "What is it?" Jayden sensed the urgency in his voice. "I can't trust Sheila. It looks like she is hiding something from me, and I want to find out what it is." Derrick lowered his voice. Jayden's mind was clouded; he remembered what Elder Thomas had told him, but he was Derrick's friend, and he wanted the best for him. He looked at Derrick. "I need to know why you can't trust your fiance. Aren't you happy she is back after all this time? You even lose your sanity because of her. I think you ought to be grateful that she is back and that you are fine. Try to make the most of the time you have left with her. You can never tell. You might be the cure she needs." Jayden looked at Derrick and patted him on the shoulder. "Let us just be positive. I will try my best to prolong her life span, but you need to be ready for anything." He replied and walked away. Derrick lowered his head. He wasn't ready to lose Annie, even though she wasn't Sheila. " Jayden!." He shouted, making him stop halfway. "What is it?" Jayden asked, fixing his gaze on him. "Do you remember the blood test you carried out on Sheila when she was ill?" Derrick asked again. "Yes, what about it?" "Can you do a matching test with Sheila's blood? I can't seem to understand why she would be down with a terminal disease. Something doesn't seem right." Jayden nodded and went inside to see Annie. "Can I have a bit of your blood? I would like to run some tests and see if we can come up with anything." Annie smiled brightly, seeing that they were not giving up. She cleaned her face and extended her arms for the blood to be taken. Jayden looked at her and smiled. "Don't worry, we are going to take care of you. You just need to play your part and make sure Derrick is back to his original form. We need him to assume responsibilities and take up the throne." Annie looked at him. "Is there something you are hiding from me? Am I dying?" She asked, staring at Jayden, who was drawing out some blood samples. "I am not going to say much, but I think you need to relax and settle in. We are going to make sure you get better." Jayden smiled again and walked out of the room. Annie looked at her arm from where the blood was drawn and back at Jayden, who was walking out of the room. Her mind was troubled, and she wondered what was going on. Her phone rang, and she vibrated, feeling shocked. She looked at who it was.
