Chapter 9 Chapter Nine

"Sarah! I have been trying to get a hold of you. What happens?" Annie's voice showed she was a little worried about her friend. "I was asleep. Is anything the matter?" She asked, rubbing her hands over her face. "Yes, another report here at Astral Pack just came out that I am dying and there is no remedy for it. I need your help, Sarah." "Uhmm. I am all ears. What do you want me to do?" Sarah asked, sitting upright. She was worried about the news she was getting back from Annie. They had planned that she should go and work as a maid to get the money to cure her illness. But it looked like fate had another plan in store for her friend. "Can you visit the hospital? I mean the doctor who diagnosed me with cancer. I just need to be sure about all of this. My life has taken a new turn since I got here." Annie managed to get up from the floor and sit on the bed. "What do you mean by taking a new turn? Are you sure you are alright?" "I don't have the time to explain anything, but I will when I am sure I know what is going on here. Just give me the report and have it sent to me. How is my mother doing, by the way?" Annie asked "I can handle your mother. Just make sure you are fine and have yourself treated. I will get back to you when I have the report." Sarah replied by hanging up the call. The door opened gently, and Derrick walked in. "Are you feeling any better?" He asked her with a worried look on her face. "I am fine, but can you take the maids away? I am not comfortable with having them around me." Derrick looked at her and said, "I won't have my fiance walking without someone to make sure she is well looked after. You just need to make use of them for a while until I am sure you can handle being fine on your own. Besides, I am just looking out for you." "I know, but trust me. I can handle myself; just let me do me." Annie said it with a smile. Derrick felt sad and stared at her. "You scared me, Sheila. I need you to promise me you won't do that again." He said he was gently pulling himself towards her. Annie felt her heart beat a little faster and wondered why her heart beat that fast. Derrick kissed her slightly on her lips as their lips brushed slightly against each other. Zane knocked on the door gently, and Derrick pulled away from Annie and walked towards the door. " Zane? What do you want?" His lip parted, and he furrowed his brows. "Alpha Grey would like to have a word with you." "Really? What does he want for his time?" Derrick squeezed his face. "Tell him I would be there, but right now I need to take care of my woman." Derrick added and slammed the door in Zane's face. After shutting the door on Zane, Derrick redirected his attention to Annie, his face filled with worry. "Is everything all right with you, Sheila?" he inquired, approaching her. Even though her thoughts were still spinning from the news and the unknowns about her situation, Annie forced a faint smile. I'm doing well, Derrick. "Feeling a bit swamped," she said, her voice showing signs of fatigue. Derrick extended his hand and delicately held her face, using his thumb to wipe away a lone tear. "He murmured that he couldn't stand seeing her in this state, unsure of what was happening, as he looked into her eyes for comfort." Annie found comfort in his touch, feeling reassurance in his warmth and company. "I am aware, but we will solve this together, right?" she mentioned, attempting to appear more assured than she was. Derrick gave a firm nod, showing his determination. "We will." He promised to keep pushing until we got answers and a plan, his eyes showing his determination. At that moment, there was another knock on the door, disrupting their moment. Derrick let out a sigh and reluctantly moved away from Annie to pick up the phone. This time, Grey was the one standing in the doorway, his face showing a blend of worry and urgency. "Hey Derrick, how is Sheila doing?" Has she shown any signs of improvement? Grey inquired, urgency evident in his tone. Derrick looked at Annie briefly before facing his brother. He responded with a voice filled with frustration, saying that she is managing but still affected by all that has occurred. "I'm confused about why you're suddenly so worried." Grey looked puzzled, with a creased forehead. "What are you trying to say?" Derrick, that woman is your future wife. "Shouldn't you be concerned about her welfare?" he replied, his voice tinged with irritation. Derrick's jaw tightened as he struggled to control his feelings. Naturally, I'm concerned for her. However, it appears strange that you're suddenly so interested in her condition," he countered, his gaze piercing. Grey couldn't be himself enough to tell Derrick that Annie was his mate. They both have been attracted to each other, but Grey has shunned Annie, saying he doesn't want anything to do with her. Helena had followed behind Grey until he was at the doorstep of Derrick. She used her wolf powers to drop their conversations. Annie looked at Grey, and she felt their connection even more. She had never been drawn to any man like she was drawn to Grey. Grey also felt the connection, but he kept his emotions in check and tried to balance them before Derrick. "What do you mean by that? I was just showing concern for her." He walked past Derrick and moved closer to Annie. "She is fine, okay. You can leave now." Derrick shouted at him. "You know it is funny. I have been the one keeping you safe all this time. Do you think you could have survived all these years without me in absolute control.? Have you ever wondered why I kept you alive all these years? I could have easily had you killed and taken over the throne for myself, but I believe in a fair fight. If you think I am going to leave the throne without much of a fight, then you are wrong. I have an equal claim to the throne as much as you do. So you had better get ready for a challenge." Grey said, looking at his face. Both of them stared at each other for a while; their gaze spoke of anger and the right to prove themselves equal to the throne. "I think you both should sort out whatever it is that is eating you up. It is evident that you both have finished business. I wondered what it was about." Annie said, gently trying to get out of bed. She missed her step and was about to fall. In a flash, Grey sped over to her side, using his wolf powers. Derrick, feeling angered, walked to him and threw him against the wall. "Don't you come near her again? She is my woman; I don't want her near you, and you must come near her even in the future. Derrick shouted "What will you do, tough guy? I dare you!" Grey shouted, pushing Derrick back in anger. Derrick, fuming with anger, forgot Annie was even in the room. He had anger issues, and it was only Sheila who could calm him down. He changed into his wolf form and roared at Grey. Grey, who was also ready for a challenge, changed, and the two started a long war themselves. Annie, feeling a little scared, doesn't know what to do. It was the first time she would witness a fight between two wolves. She screamed as they kept biting at each other. The ground was drenched and filled with their blood. Grey winced as the wound was inflicted on him. With anger, he launched at Derrick and managed to bite into his stomach. Both of them stood up and looked at each other. Derrick had a red eye as an Alpha, while Grey had blue eyes. It was an omega. The door opened suddenly, and Elder Thomas woke up to see what was going on. "For f**k sake! Can't you see you are scaring her? I thought you both were mature enough to deal with your issues, but it looks like I was wrong. Both of you should listen to me. If you are going to keep fighting over this, why don't you settle it in the arena? I am tired of coming to stop you each time you lose your coolness. And you Grey, "Of what business do you have in here?" Elder Thomas thundered, making both turn back to their human forms. He looked at them in their nudity. "Get some f*****g clothes on!." He shouted in anger at both of them.
