A Tough Decision Annie's lips quivered, the back of her eyes burned with tears, and her hands fisted. His words were hurtful, it was like a knife piercing into her heart. Immediately Alpha Grey rejected her, she felt something like a physical blow strike her. She clutched her chest, gasping for breath, unable to comprehend the extent of the rejection she had just experienced. "Ahhh," she wailed, kneeling on the floor as the world flashed through her eyes. The man she had believed was her fated mate had coldly severed their bond, leaving her feeling utterly shattered. "Get out!" Grey growled thunderously, his voice shaking the entire room to its bottom. "Leave this place, b***h!" Helena cursed, grabbed the flower vase, and threw it at her. The vase pierced into Annie's skin but the pain was nothing compared to what she was feeling right now at that moment. Annie held the wall for support as she staggered out of the room, her steps were unstable. Once she was outside Grey's chamber, Annie stumbled through the corridor, her mind clouded by the emotional agony of Grey's rejection. She had no sense of direction, and it felt like she was lost in a labyrinth of despair as she found herself in an unfamiliar hallway. Annie didn't stop for a second as she continued to walk, wanting the pain in her heart to stop as she held her chest. Why moon goddess! Why did she pair her with someone as heartless as him?! After a while, the pain began to ebb, and her senses returned. "W-where am I?" Annie found herself lost in the pack. Her surroundings seemed unfamiliar and disorienting. She didn't know where she was or how she had ended up there-she realized she was lost. As she continued to search for an exit, a sudden cry reached her ears, echoing from a nearby room. "What's that?" Anna, her wolf, asked. As Annie approached the room, the cries grew louder and more distressing. Annie saw a room that was slightly ajar and she cautiously pushed open the door and entered, her eyes widened as she saw the scene before her! An enormous man, covered in rags and with a crazed look in his eyes, held a trembling maid in his grasp. The maid's eyes met Annie's, and she begged for help, terror etched across her face. "Please, please help me!" the maid implored. The situation was tense, and Annie knew she had to act carefully. She took a cautious step forward, her voice soothing. "Hey, stay calm." "Do something I beg of you, or he will kill me!" The maid was frantic, the fear visible in her eyes. The moment the man's gaze locked onto Annie, he seemed momentarily startled. In Annie's view, he bore a strange resemblance to Grey, the man who just rejected her a few seconds ago. Strangely the man's features gradually softened as his gaze focused on Annie, his eyes filled with disbelief. He mumbled her name, "Shila?" "Shila?" Annie was taken aback and she became bewildered by the name, unsure why he had called her that. And before she could react, the madman crazily lunged forward and enveloped her in a desperate hug, his grip surprisingly gentle. "Huh!" Annie gasped aloud and her eyes widened incredulously. Meanwhile, the maid who had witnessed this astonishing encounter was stunned and she rushed out to alert the pack's elders. In the blink of an eye, the maids and the pack elders arrived and hurried into the room, expecting a dangerous situation. However, to their shock, they found the once-crazed man now sober, holding Annie as if she were the most delicate treasure. The room was filled with a mix of shock, confusion, and relief. Annie was dazed, staring confusingly as he called her continuously, "Shila," Who is Shila?" "Did he just call her, Shila?" One of the elders whose name is Thomas asked and looked around to be sure he wasn't the only one that saw that. "Yes," everyone mumbled and was left in awe. The only one left confused was Annie whose cloth this strange man held on to tightly and had refused to let him go. "Derrick," elder Thomas called and Annie watched his gaze shift to that of the elder and back to hers. "So his name is Derrick after all." Anna her wolf purred in her head. Derrick is the rightful owner of the throne but all this changed when his wife Shila lost her life in a tragic motor accident on the day of his coronation, five years ago. This had left him in trauma and since then he had lost his senses. Derrick had never been able to identify anyone properly anymore and had been secluded from the palace, while his brother Grey took over. After waiting for years and the elders realised he was not getting any better, they decided to make Grey, his younger brother, the next Alpha of the Astral Pack. But unknown to all of them, Annie was the daughter of the first Alpha of the Astral Pack who was killed by rogues many years ago and whose daughter was sent out of the pack after the demise of her father. But with Annie in the picture, she must have restored his senses somehow. "What's your name, young lady?" Alpha Thomas inquired. "Annie." The chief maid responded even before she answered. "A Annie, can we have a word with you?" Alpha Thomas asked. "S sure. But I don't know if he's going to...let go of me." Annie asked with a shaky voice. Obviously, she was still scared of him. Alpha Thomas approached Annie but was taken aback when Derrick growled at him in anger, thinking he was about to take Annie away from him. Annie knew she had to put on an act so that Derrick could willingly let her off, and by doing so she effortlessly played along by ruffling his hair. "I will be back soon, I promise," she whispered. To everyone's astonishment and wonder, they watched Derrick unhurriedly let go of her. His face became bleak as he lowered his head, and Annie's heart hurt but she knew she had to figure out the mystery. Annie left without issues and a meeting was called where elder Thomas had to persuade Annie to stay and help them so Derrick could recover his senses and take his rightful place as the next Alpha of the Astral Pack. "Please. We need you to do this for us. We are willing to pay you whatever amount you want." Elder Thomas proposed. "But-" Annie went short of words. "Please, Annie. If you do this for this pack, you are about to save it from crumbling and stopping Grey from taking over this pack and ruining it." Elder Thomas begged. With all eyes on Annie, she went silent. Her body went numb. "You know what Sarah would advise you to do?" Anna, her wolf, spoke. "No," Annie whispered between gritted teeth. "You need to do this. Your health comes first." Anna suggested. After much silence, Annie finally spoke. "How many years do I have to wait for?" Annie asked, looking from one person to another. "Derrick has been known to be a smart man. You won't have to wait for a year." Elder Thomas replied, walking towards her with pleading eyes. "I will-I'm in." Annie finally agreed. She was not done talking when the door flung open revealing Grey standing at the door with rage coupled with the woman Annie had seen earlier. "What are you guys doing? Holding a meeting behind my back." Grey asked and everyone fell silent. No one dared to challenge him nor talk at him except Elder Thomas and his derailed brother, Derrick. "Grey." Elder Thomas called. "Yes," He walked in majestically, signaling to Helena to take her leave. "So, I was the only one who did not get invited?" Grey asked, pulling out a seat for himself and damning every eye which was on him. "I think it is a good thing you are here." Elder Thomas commenced. 'So?" Grey asked rudely. "I'm afraid the party is over and your coronation will no longer hold." Elder Thomas replied. Suddenly Grey broke out into a malicious laughter, one which at first sounded weird but soon others joined until his face looked serious and his wolf powers started to unleash itself. Fear overwhelmed Annie as her gaze fell on the door. "That was a joke right?" Grey asked, his voice changing as his bones started to snap. Hairs took over his body drastically, his fingers changed to fangs and his eye color turned red. "No. You cannot be the next Alpha. Not when your brother is getting better." Elder Thomas broke the news and Grey looked at everyone with disbelief. "Are..." He paused when the door flung open revealing Derrick at the door, looking well-dressed and in royal attire. Fear overwhelmed Grey as he saw his derailed brother of many years walking towards him fiercely. Grey stood from his seat and moved backward. "G Grey," Derrick called as he stood beside Annie whom he knew as Shila. "I will not take this!" Grey growled and changed into his wolf form ready to fight for his position.
