I scream in terror, rooted to the spot and unable to move as Kirnon rushes for me. I expect pain to rip through me, but it never comes.
Instead, I hear Kirnon cry out in agony.
I shakily raise my head to find Kirnon yanking the kitchen knife out of his side, hissing in pain while Nia huffs over him. I swallow thickly as Nia kicks the knife out of Kirnon's hands and slams both fists on his back, sending Kirnon to the ground.
Kirnon begins cursing in a language I don't recognize. Before Nia can do anything else, he shifts into a bat and flees, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Nia snarls loudly and moves to follow after him, but he stops short and looks back at me.
