Why do I feel like calling her? She's probably had dinner and gone home already.
Still, the hunger gnaws- not just for food, but for something that makes this day feel less empty. Before I can talk myself out of it, I pick up my phone and hit her number.
She answers on the second ring, cautious." Eros?"
" Hey." I pause. " You may have already eaten this evening, but.... will you join me? I'm starving and I don't feel like eating alone."
There's a pause, long enough that I wonder if I've overstepped. Then she answers- soft, sure." I can."
