Jordan’s Point of View
“Surprise?” I asked.
Though completely startled, I lacked the courage to walk up to the clan's executive to understand the purpose of the ceremony.
Some of my colleagues in the clan's school who had noticed my absence rushed up to me in excitement with handshakes and friendly hugs.
“Where have you been, Jordan?" they inquired.
I hived a sigh of relief as I responded, "Don't tell me you missed me that much.”
"Not really; you're one of us, and besides, the lecturers have been asking of you on several occasions” they explained.
"Hmm, little wonder why you guys were on a watch for me, because I know you all too well and you'll never check out for another except when need arises.” I jabbed.
“Inasmuch as we may not argue with you on that, I presume your assumption is wrong” they argued.
“You think so?” I retorted.
“Of course,” he persisted.
“But not to worry, I'm here now." I snapped, trying as much as possible to close the conversation so as to dodge being asked about Zane.
Flynn, the Oracle, as I observed, was already seated tightly in his priestly-accustomed uniform, as he's always appeared in ceremonies except occasionally. He was the Oracle and carried great mysteries many never knew. Remember, he saved us from the furry lycans and later disappeared? That was an example of how such a level of power could be carried out and controlled.
The clan's chief elder, Elder Zoe, who doubled as the chief adviser of the clan and also one of our course lecturers, was also well adorned in his accustomed attire, as supposed. He also knew a great deal of mysteries and only relayed them out when necessary.
Our clan, unlike other packs, consisted of the clan's head and his Luna, who was nowhere to be found as I set my eyes on the orderly podium, which was well arranged at the heart of the square.
He was called the clan head instead of the Alpha because, unlike other packs, the clan's head was mysteriously chosen and sent by the wolf's goddess for special induction and affirmation before installment.
The clan head could be an alpha, a beta, a delta, or an omega; the only thing that mattered was his strength and ability to lead the park with great mystery and determination. Thus, she was only chosen by the moon goddess since she knew the potential of all wolves.
So it was possible that after the clan's head steps down or is late, the son of the clan's head may not necessarily be the next head. Mostly, Luna is usually sent into exile in order not to interrupt the flow of the clan since she has already been in authority and may want to still head over the clan.
The head delta, head gamma, the chief enforcer, and other members of the cabinet with high authority were all seated in their respective positions, with decorations towering all over the square.
I shivered with my already tired body and a demoralised emotion, though I was also hungry and devastated. Still consumed with the whereabouts of my friend, Zane made a mess of my mental health, therefore, my sluggishness.
“What’s the celebration all about?” I stopped closer and asked one of the clan members next to me.
“Don't worry, you'll get to know very soon.” He smiled and whispered, Welcome back once more.
Amidst the towering crowd were some visitors from the nearest pack, whom I hadn't set my eyes on before.
“Everywhere looked so changed in just a few days of the journey I had undertaken. What a world!” I mumbled.
Thus, a loud gunshot blast fired into the atmosphere suddenly alighted my consciousness as the Clan's chief Elder walked up and yelled;
“Let the celebration begin.”
Followed by a loud “yaaaaa” by the grooming masses.
This ushered in the various drumming groups, who were already highlighted in their uniforms. A total of five performing sets were already present.
The first set of performers had a flowery embroidered dress with mixtures of blue, brown, and yellow, well combined. I particularly loved it. The ladies were in a short skirt, though flared. I guess this was done in order to allow easy movement while moving their legs during the dancing steps.
Their top was a simple sleeveless similar material. They wore no shoes, but beads were worn around their ankles to allow the chattering of their steps in accordance with the drums. They were the first to take to the stage in display of their performance, which was well rehearsed and delivered joyfully.
The second group consisted of some young pups with white all through. One would assume that they were on a ritual performance, but no, it wasn't. They had been well prepared in their nature of presentation, which involved some display of choreographic steps. At the end of the presentation, massive applause was allotted to the pup, causing a row of excitement in their faces. I particularly loved their performances; it was way too organised for those young stars. But all the same, they kept us impressed.
The third group consisted of a group of young ladies with well-knitted flower vests that were well decorated and knitted neatly to reveal the content of the vest.
Their presentation was the most intriguing. One would think they were geared towards dancing, but that was far from reality. A well-written piece had been written in which they allowed every member who was willing to voluntarily participate. And finally, the flowers were tossed into the air, and magically, they gathered in the atmosphere and fused in a circular fashion, causing a sudden shout by the amazed and chattering crowd. Thus, they took a bow and left the stage with resounding applause, following suit.
“So before the final group comes in, we'll proceed to the main event of the day,” the Chief Elder emphasised.
“As we all know, today marks an important day in the history of our clan, as another record is about to be set.”
“The goddess will today choose a successor to continue the activities of this clan; he or she has already been prepared, and we're only here too.”
This was immediately interrupted by a sudden shout: "noooooooooooo,” thus leaving everyone dumbfounded.
