Lisa was getting ready to resume work, she put all her necessary stuff in her bag. She looked like she enjoyed the few days of her break, I mean it literally showed on her face. Pulling her phone from her rather little bag, she dailed her bestie's number. Brenda was not picking up even after she called two times again. She thought she was probably already at work,so she decided to phone her later. Looking back at her room and reaching to lock the door, Lisa said to herself," God, let today be a nice one. Amen." She was really determined to put in her best. She even looked at it. Lisa wore a fine blue corporate shirt tucked in her black skirt, her very beautiful curves were admirable. She looked really confident. She waved her hand to stop a taxi and headed to work immediately. "Brenda!!!" Lisa yelled out, it was just 6:34 am, she didn't expect the Boss or most of the workers to be early to work. She walked hurriedly to Brenda's office, and surprisingly, she was not yet at work. Her very bright and enlightened face dropped as she was still confused why her friend was not yet at work and didn't bother to call her. This was new, it was a first. She already turned to leave the office. "I didn't know you guys yell so early in the morning at work, you know?" Max said, sitting comfortably behind his desk. His face had no expression of anger or annoyance at Lisa's act. It almost looked like he had a smirk on his face. Lisa was in shock. She was surprised to see him in the office early, she has worked here for some time and had never seen Mr Max this punctual to the office. She just nodded her in negation to what he asked, she already looked shy and scared too. Of course she was lying. Brenda and herself would usually gist on top of their voices whenever they were early to work. Max got up and moved closer to where she was standing in Brenda's office. He smiled at her and said " You look good today, welcome back anyways. Don't wear that face this morning, it's too early for that" He walked back to his office and leaned over his desk. Max is a tall fine man. His dark shiny eyes were admirable and he had beautiful dentition that no one could resist when he smiled. Lisa could not help but notice how fine this man is. "Well your friend called." He said so reluctantly. " She won't be at work this week, she told me she had an emergency to take care of. I'm guessing you didn't know that's why you came in here shouting" Lisa was surprised. She didn't mention that to her, even during the times they spoke during the break. She didn't want to affirm what Mr Max said, so she told him that she was aware. " I just thought she was already back from that" Yeah, Lisa was a bad liar. It literally showed on her face that she had no idea what he said. She looked really puzzled and was certainly disappointed at Brenda. "Okay then, let's get back to work. You'll be taking her place today, and this week, till she returns" " It's fine sir, I'll be able to handle it" she responded. " Alright then, get back to your office. I'll call you when I need you." Lisa walked back to her office. She was definitely going to call Brenda and give her a query for the act she pulled up. Like how could she not be in work and did not deem it right to let her know, she was really upset with her. She was not going to allow this to ruin her day, most definitely. She was even going to be doing doubles at work today, her work as the secretary and Mr Max's assistant. Was going to be stressful but would definitely kill it. " You did well today, Lisa, I didn't even expect it, '' Max said to her, drumming his hands on his desk and tilting his chair. There was a little smile on her face as he complimented her. He laughed at her. "You can smile if you want to, you tried today. That's all I'm saying, "he said again. This time she already felt shy. She would probably melt if he uttered any more compliments to her. "Thank you sir." They sat and spoke for some time, about work, school and other stuff, even their personal life. "What do u think about getting married" he asked her She was rather shocked, as the question came up from nowhere. "Uhmm, I don't really know sir. I think it's good, with the right one at least." Lisa replied. " You see, that's the issue right there. The hard part is finding the right one. They're a lot of people who could pretend to be the right one." Reaching for the piece of paper on his table, he said back at her, "I don't see myself getting married though, for now at least, I might just for my mom's happiness and I'm still unsure about that" She definitely wants to get married, settle down and have kids. "I don't either, sir, not right now though." She said sharply at her Boss, just to keep the conversation flowing smoothly. Lisa was still surprised that he spoke to her about marriage and relationships. She just listened to him talk. She could already see that he was a very learned man from the way he spoke. Lisa was impressed. "Well, with time, you might find the right one…soon" she added. Max smiled or smirked at her. He looked at her in admiration. This made her feel shy and uncomfortable. She got up, assuming the conversation was over. "I'd be going now sir." She said, looking very anxious. Max didn't want this conversation to be over, but he didn't want to keep her late at the office also, considering that she might have other things to attend to. Mostly disappointed. "Sure, sure. I'll see you tomorrow then. Have a nice evening." He replied back to her. She nodded and smiled back at him while leaving his office. She also enjoyed their conversation but she was getting really uncomfortable and she didn't know why exactly. It could be because Max was a very attractive man or something else, she just felt it was time to leave and she did so. She got to her office, packed her things and as she headed for the door, she quickly dialed Brenda's number, this time she picked up. "Grrrl, don't be mad, I know you are. I'll explain, just come over." Brenda sounded so relaxed, rather sober, contrary to what she was expecting to hear. She boarded a ride straight up to her place. She wanted to find out what Brenda was up to. Lisa's countenance already showed that she was upset with her. "So what's the emergency that made you skip work, and not tell me too?" Lisa sounded really pissed, she had to act like she was fully aware of her whereabouts. That made her look stupid because Max could clearly see that she had no idea of her being at that moment. "I had a date with a guy I met on Tinder" Brenda said with so much joy in her voice. She couldn't believe it was a guy from Tinder that made her skip work. She was so upset. Lisa felt like slapping her face to make her come to her right senses, she just nodded, feeling ashamed and disappointed at her friend. "I know, I know, I just had to go girl. I needed a little excitement in my life." She added as she leaned on Lisa's shoulders. " And besides, I have an event this week at the Funville, so that's like part of the reason I can't make it to work this week. I already told the Boss, he's cool with it" shaking Lisa up to cheer up. " It's fine. Just let me know about some stuff first sometimes. This was just irrelevant and I got myself worked up." She was still disappointed that a date could actually make her miss work. They spoke about the date and Brenda seemed really happy, almost sounding like she was into this guy already. Getting back to work the following day, Lisa was already used to the system of her being Mr Max's assistant and also handling the post of the secretary. " It's so good to see you handling double positions so well, I must say I'm impressed." Max said approaching her at Brenda's office. She just had a contagious smile, it made Max smile back at her. She would probably blush her cheeks out if he made any more compliments to her. Max and Lisa had a great working relationship. They had the time to talk more as Boss and employee, and also got to discuss their personal life. Lisa felt connected to Max these few days. She already started having fantasies in her head about the both of them just like Brenda did. Was she overthinking this or did Mr Max actually like her or was he just being flirtatious? She enjoyed it anyway, something in her just felt like Mr Max really liked her and she was beginning to feel the same way too. "My Mom will be back today. And there's something I need you to do for me. A huge one actually" he looked rather shy as he spoke this to her. Lisa was already anxious as she replied back to him,"Okay sir, I would love to help you out." Her eyes were fixed to his. " Marry me." What!!Was this a dream? She just stood there in total confusion and said nothing.
