Clone Brain

1045 Words
Nolan POV A chill shot through my body as I tried to comprehend the gravity of it all. *This is insane. How could any of this be real?* "I can't... I can't believe it. Damn it, this is all messed up," I muttered, my thoughts spiraling. I clenched my fists as a disturbing realization crept into my mind. *Was I... was I a clone from the very beginning? "I don't believe you!" I snapped, the words tumbling out faster than I could stop them. "I met her parents. I visited her orphanage. She bled on our first joyride together! She had friends. I even spoke to her high school colleagues! She was an architect!" My heart raced, each memory blending into confusion. Dr. Frank leaned back with a smug smile, his cold gaze piercing through me. "We staged all of that," he replied, unbothered. I staggered back, feeling my heart hammer against my ribcage. "And... and her father? You killed him?" Dr. Frank's expression remained impassive. "Her adopted father was an agent of the BPO, as was her mother. Necessary casualties." A pounding headache struck me. I fumbled into my pocket, pulling out some painkillers, my fingers trembling. I downed the pills, barely able to focus. "What about Sasha?" I asked, my voice weak, my mind spinning. "She was an actress. She'd do anything for the right price," Dr. Frank answered without a shred of hesitation. My breath caught in my throat. *Everything. Everything we lived through... was a lie.* "So, you're telling me... most of my life was a staged play?" I said, my voice hoarse. Dr. Frank gave a twisted nod. "Yes, and you were instrumental in making it all come together. So, thank you," he said, bowing mockingly. I grabbed the nearest water bottle and drank, my throat dry, my body shaking uncontrollably. My hands slipped away from my gun, but a sudden panic attack gripped me. The room spun, my vision blurred. When I came to, I found myself strapped to a stretcher, helpless. "Release me! Now!" I barked, thrashing against the restraints. Dr. Frank’s laughter echoed in the sterile room. "Why would I do that? You’re not making this fun," he said with a sneer. "You’ll see how fun it gets when I break free and snap your neck with my bare hands," I growled, glaring at him. "Relax, or you'll trigger another panic attack," Dr. Frank taunted, leaning in closer. I struggled to free myself, my voice wavering with fear. "What are you going to do? Make me a clone?" Dr. Frank held up a syringe, his eyes glinting with dark intent. "No. You’d make a terrible clone. But I do have a plan," his voice slowed, the words blurring as the syringe’s contents seeped into my bloodstream. My vision darkened, and the world began to spin. "What are you planning to do with me?" I whispered, my voice frail, my mind slipping. Dr. Frank turned his back, preparing his tools, his voice calm. "Something I should have done from the beginning. A perfect experiment." "What... experiment?" I asked weakly, dread building in my chest. He paused, testing a brain saw, the metallic hum filling the room. "A matchmaker." My heart slammed in my chest. "What?" I screamed, my body thrashing against the restraints. But no matter how much strength I mustered, my limbs grew heavier. "Don’t fight it," he said with a calm smile, approaching me. "You should be grateful to be part of something historic. This will be the greatest achievement mankind has ever seen." "You're insane!" I spat, my words slurred, my consciousness slipping. "Why not use someone else—Rowan Chandler—imagine how much more famous you'd be?" Dr. Frank paused, considering my words. "Hmm... you might be onto something," he said, resuming his work. I seized the opportunity. "Yes, kill two birds with one stone. Turn them into your lab rats instead!" Dr. Frank chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Oh, Nolan. Some people aren't worth the effort. They're just... a waste of resources." I could barely move, my body drained. "I’m worth it," I whispered. "Release me. Let me finish the job... kill those on your list." He tilted his head, eyes narrowing. "You almost had me convinced," he said, pulling on his surgical gloves. "But it's a pity." A cold shiver ran down my spine. "What's a pity?" I asked, my voice trembling. Dr. Frank powered up the brain saw, the screeching sound slicing through the air. "It’s a pity... you lack the motivation to carry out the task." I fought back the tears of terror, trying to appear brave. "I have all the motivation I need to send them straight to hell." "You don’t understand, Nolan," Dr. Frank said, looming over me. "You refuse to see the truth. But don’t worry... you’ll understand soon enough." The saw buzzed loudly, cutting into my skull. My vision darkened as he made the first incision. Hours later, I awoke to the sound of monitors beeping. Doctors hovered over me, their voices muffled. *Was I alive?* "Doc! He’s awake," someone shouted. Dr. Frank approached, his face a mask of calm amusement. "Wakey, wakey. How do you feel?" he asked, his voice dripping with false concern. I glared at him. "Like a man ready to rip your throat out." He smiled. "Good. You’re responsive. Subject is stable," he said, turning to a mirror. My eyes caught something horrifying—a brain sitting on a scale. My brain. "What did you do to me?" I shouted, rage boiling over as I broke free from the restraints and lunged at Dr. Frank, gripping his throat tightly. "Put. My. Brain. Back," I snarled through clenched teeth. "Okay, okay," he gasped, prying my hands away. "But... there’s a problem." "What problem?" I demanded, feeling an unfamiliar sensation creeping through my mind. He smiled darkly. "You’ll see... soon enough." I staggered back, my hands shaking. My vision blurred as my own voice distorted, my mind unraveling. Something alien was taking over. "You... you bastard!" I screamed, but my strength faded. The matchmaker brain was sinking in, erasing who I once was. Dr. Frank’s laughter echoed through the room. "Welcome to the new you, Nolan. Or should I say... the perfect experiment."
