Chapter 1

- Cornelia Warner - I stared back at my reflection challenging myself not to blink. My long dark brown hair were nicely bundled into a thick ponytail that reached down to my hips to prevent them from falling around my face and my pajama's were offering the homey comfort that I basically needed all the time. I was sitting Indian style on the vanity seat facing the mirror, my own face greeted me in the coldest way possible. The morning sun refracted from the mirror and burnt my eyes, narrowing them further as I tried to hold my position. My eyes were now turned a bright red colour and water pooled in them making them itchy, the irritation forced me to break the contact and rub my eyes hastily. "Who knew glaring would be so difficult?!" I whined getting off the cushioned seat almost tripping over my own two feet. Deana laughed at my expense, falling backwards on my bed and popped another chocolate ball in her mouth. "I hate you!" I threw one of my many pillows on her face and regretted it immediately when she rubbed her cheek and pouted. "It's honestly not that difficult, you are just incapable of making a rude face. It's not your fault Lee." Her comment did nothing to boost my confidence, but she was right though. My momma always said that I'm naive and incapable of doing anything bad but isn't that a good thing? Apparently not, that's why Deana had taken it upon herself to provide me with some basic rudeness skills that I needed to survive the world.. "It's not like everyone in this world is bad, there are many good people and I don't need to learn glaring to interact with them." I reasoned softly with her, she only stared at me and continued to stuff her face with my snacks. I blinked a few times to get rid of the rawness that was still present around my eyes. "Maybe Cecilia should keep you locked in here forever, you are too good for this world." "Deana!" I exclaimed horrified, how could she say such a thing?! She knew more than anyone how much I wanted to go out! She laughed and threw a salted chip at me, "Joking, relax." "I'm happy that momma is finally letting me out, I want to see so many things, so many places I want to visit and so little time. How could I possibly do everything in a day Dee?" "You are very happy aren't you?" "Of course!" I squealed excitedly, "For the first time I will be seeing the beauty out of this palace, I love it here but I also want to see what's out there." "It's not all rainbows and unicorns Lee, there is a lot of bad in the world." "Then I'll see what little good it has, it will be so much fun!" Deana shook her head in amusement, "Did you pack all the necessary things? It's only one day but you should be prepared." "Yes, I took everything I need. Momma and Papa have allowed me to go out for a day and I'm going to make the most out of it!" I smiled happily, it's been 12 years since I was confined in this palace. Momma had said it was for my good and I believed her, Papa didn't leave out any luxury that I would want, they tried their best to make me happy and showers me with immense love. But now I was ready to leave, may it be for one day but I was ready. My heart said it woul be a memorable day tomorrow, I would be very happy. Deana left a few hours later to pack her own stuff. The siren kingdom was located in the east, in Vancouver and that's where we were. Just like all other supernatural, as humans call us, we have our own king and queen who were my Momma and Papa previously. I was the next in line to the throne but due to my incapability to take big decisions and my own unwillingness to take the throne, the title of king was given to my older cousin Darcy who was an incredible king. He loved our subjects and along with his mate Sarah he ruled with justice and brought prosperity. He had played a major role in convincing my parents to let me go out for a day. Deana and her brother Felix are coming with me to explore the human city and to spend a whole day out, Sarah wanted to come but Darcy held her back because he couldn't bear to stay away from her, he behaved like a puppy in front of her and it was hilarious. He was currently out for work purposes and Sarah was visiting her parents. I missed them. I was 22 years old and haven't found my mate, how could I? I was kept out of curious eyes all my life and even if he was looking for me right now he wouldn't be able to find me. It was too late now, I have already lost hope because as soon as I come back from my say out I will be stuck here once again for who knows how long. I doubt I'll ever find him, maybe he's already found someone else? Maybe he's walking with her in beautiful Meadows hand in hand unaware of me, but no matter what I'll never hate him - whoever he is. But I won't mind, it's better if he's happy wherever he is. So I just watch other mates being in love and be happy with them, my brother and Sarah are one of the cutest couple I've seen and I once wished to find my love who would pamper me like my brother did to Sarah, but it's okay. I have lots of people to love me, surely it can make up for the love of my Mate. "Lee! Are you done? Your mom is calling you down for breakfast!" "Coming Dee!" I rushed to arrange my room and quickly changed out of my pajamas, I stubbed my toe on the table and so I had to hop around the room to find things. Once I was sure I won't get scolded I let out a deep breath and put on a huge smile before skipping downstairs to the big dining hall. Our palace was big enough to accommodate the entire population of our kingdom but it was only our small family who lived here along with the house staff, we always have meals together with the exception of when Papa is out of town. Today Deana and Felix - her twin brother were joining us for breakfast. As usual my Papa was seated at the head of the table and I hoped over to him kissing his cheek and hugged him from behind. "Good morning princess, did you sleep well?" "Good morning Papa, and yes I slept well!" I replied taking my seat on his left, momma came in a minute later with a big platter full of pancakes and another main followed closely behind her with a bow of fruits and a jar of syrup. My smile widened at the choice of breakfast. Papa and I shared a secret smirk and shook hands under the table, agreeing that today's breakfast was good. Honestly I love my mom but she was a control freak in many ways, health was something she took way too serious which limited our options on snacks and over all everything we ate so seeing that she was willingly offering us chocolate chip pancakes and syrup felt like a golden opportunity. "Thank you for the food." I thanked and so did everyone else and we started to dig in sophisticatedly, I have no idea how you do that but I tried my best to not let the sweet syrup drip down my chin and took only two pancakes at a time with a total of four servings. I've always had a big appetite, more than normal which sometimes scared my mother. She fuzzed around me always checking on me as if I was a fragile doll that could break with a gust of wind. Someone would think I'm not normal. Which I was, a bit too normal to be born in the family of Powerful beings. I was the daughter of two powerful sirens born without powers. How ironic. Though I was born almost like a human my parents loved me to death, they are the best. I quickly finished the last bit of pancakes on on my plate and wiped my lips with the tissue. I could care less about being so well mannered if it wasn't for Momma, she valued manner and sophistication a lot. "I'm going to my room, breakfast was delicious." "Cornelia, wait." I turned at momma's call, her expression was uncertain and troubled which didn't settle good with me. "Yes, momma?" "Tomorrow you will be leaving home for the first time in years darling, I'm a bit concerned that's all." She said softly, my emotions hit the roof at the sad face of my mother. She was the best person in the world and to see her sad makes me sad. "Momma, I'm going to be okay. Dee and Felix are there to accompany me. You don't have to worry it's just one day." She stood up and caressed my face with her soft hands. "I know darling. But remember what I told you earlier, no matter what happens, don't go around the west coast. Okay?" "Yes momma, I'll be careful." I said hugging her tightly, "I have to finish my homework before Mrs. Reid comes home." I excuse myself and rush back to my room to finish my homework. Mrs. Reid was my math teacher who reminded me of a female demon. Not that I've seen any Demons in my life but if there had to be any they would be exactly like her. She was cruel beyond belief when it came to homeworks, and I have lots left to do. It took me a good two hours to finish all of it and another three hours in class with Mrs. Reid. I somehow survived the day and now laid on the bed with my hands and feet spread wide. I turned my head to the side and eyes the medium sized bag that had all my important stuff, excitement exploded in me in forms of bubbled and a giggle escaped my lips. "Finally." I whispered into the air, closing my eyes I hummed a random tune which calmed my heart and mind. But the excitement was too much, like a kid just got a candy store as a birthday gift. I got off my bed and went over to the window to get a glance of what was out there, soft breeze caressed my face and blew my hair in the gentlest way. "Finally."
