CHAPTER 3

Nicholas's Pov "Eddie… how could you?" I whispered fiercely, but primarily at myself that I couldn't stop this from happening. The rain that was falling started dripping down my chin and onto Eddie's pale face. "You knew what Lucien was like. But still… you—" I wiped the tears that spilled down my face as I watched Eddie struggle. "Isabelle," My blood turned cold as I heard Eddie's hoarse voice. I wanted to cling on to hope for a little while more but I understood it to be non-feasible. So I listened. For any more instructions, he may have for me. "Search my side pocket," I did what Eddie instructed without thinking, and pulled out a silver diamond ring from his pocket. I held it in front of Eddie's face. "K…keep our future wife safe, that's all I want from you," Eddie started with a faint smile before breathing his last. I didn't even have time to query him. I sighed as I held Eddie in my arms one final time and sobbed fiercely. "You always have to have the last word, don't you, Eddie?" "Eddie?" I heard a feminine voice in the near distance which drew my attention. I promptly buried myself in the bush and waited for her to make an appearance. She was a fair woman of medium height and flair. But what made me recognize her were the emotions on her face. She promptly collapsed to the floor and started sobbing at the sight of her love. My gaze quickly hardened. Isabella's Pov "I can't wait to see the next collection of your art works, Isabelle. Our customers are delighted over it." "Well, about that… I may need a bit more time to complete it. You know my wedding is coming month, I'm currently busy with the event organizing and all" "You know you have all the time in the world you would possibly need dear, I'm just mentioning this to let you know how much love your work gets and how many people are rooting for you. Creatives are constantly dropping from the industry these days." "I see," I shifted my phone to my left ear and glanced back at the half-finished painting of Eddie's black suit which he typically wore to see me. And that was when I heard it. BAM! My heart was hammered and I instantly had a horrible feeling. I dropped my phone and hurried to the wide windows across my bedroom to see if I could catch any sightings. But I didn't. All my open windows could show me were the magnificent flowers in the grounds. Like an i***t, I put on my sandals and hurried out the door like a madman, disregarding the violent vibrating of my phone which was now laying on the floor. I descended down the stairs and got out of the mansion. I locked the front door and ran on impulse. It was like my body knew just where to go. It started raining so I made a detour. And soon enough, I found myself on the plantation. But I still didn't expect what I witnessed despite my intuition. Eddie was laying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. My eyes flooded with tears and I felt many types of emotions well through me all at once. "Eddie?" I whispered, afraid to trust my eyes that my fiance and the love of my life lay dead before me. I moved over to him despite my unsteady feet and knelt in front of him. As my fingers advanced closer to his skull, I flinched and was unable to touch it due to how deep the incision was. And that was a gunshot wound. "Who did this to you Eddie?" I muttered sadly, before bursting into full blown-out sobbing. "Eddie? How could you do this to me? Eddie!" I felt like I had lost even the strength to cry. For Eddie was the strength of my existence. Nicholas's Pov I didn't know how long she remained there crying with Eddie in her arms but all I knew was that my legs felt sore at this moment, and that she was the reason for Eddie's death. So she had no right to mourn him. It was Eddie's final will that I protect her, I didn't want to. But at least, I wouldn't kill her. So I quietly arose from where I'd been hiding and swiftly walked behind her and smacked the back of her head, causing her to pass out cold. I grumbled and grabbed my phone out of my pocket and called a number. It was one of our other brothers who had allegiance to Eddie. His name was Max. "Hello, dude, sup?" Like Eddie, Max was likewise freewheeling in nature. "Hey," I reply, unable to keep the bitterness out of my voice. "Eddie is dead." "WHAT?!" I decided to take Isabelle inside her home to protect her. But also because of my plans. A few hours later, Max arrived at the plantation with his lawyer as well as two other males. Immediately he observed the scene, he grabbed me away and stated. "Lucien killed him didn't he?" Without hesitation, I said, "Yes." "So what do you want me to do? Do we go up against him?" I let a second pass. "No." "Why?" Max whisper-yelled. "Eddie is your brother! You two are actually a bone linked by the hip, how could you do this to him?!" I straightened my stance and tightened my demeanor. "Eddie stumbled and banged his head on a stone resulting in blood loss and brain damage. Adjust Eddie's body according to that knowledge, we're wrapping things up." Max's eyes blazed brilliantly with wrath and he tightened his fists as though to punch me but he controlled himself before storming off. I got my phone out of my pocket and contacted the commissioner of police. "There's something I need to report to you, Charles," I stated as soon as he answered the call. "Oh? Humor me," "I'm trying to cover up something and I'm going to need your help because I expect a certain person to get in the way." "Oh? Who could be dumb enough to stand in the way of Lucien Bills?" I brushed my fingers through my hair briskly. "Just someone ignorant."
