The door swung open and Phoenix carried her bag to the main bedroom of the cabin. It was her father's cabin and she needed somewhere to go where the rest of her coven wouldn't bother looking. The cabin had been empty for many years after her father left, well, there were no more happy memories to be made there. She removed the sheets off of the two-seater couch and coffee table and closed the door that she had just walked through. It was late, she felt drained. Before she made her way to bed she moved towards the kitchen and opened the pantry door. Finding nothing but an enormous bag of salt and a tin of beans, she closed it. She mentally slapped herself, 'why would I look in the pantry? It's been years since anyone has been here, obviously, there wouldn't be any food.' she laughed and closed the door. She was trying her hardest to get her family and Mason's drama out of her mind and just have a few days or maybe even a few weeks to herself. Phoenix didn't know how long it would be until she was ready to face the world again, but she had had a few snacks along the way and she was absolutely ready to get to bed. Phoenix made her way to the bedroom and opened the sheets, she covered herself up to her neck and it was moments later her eyes closed and she was in a deep sleep.
The next day had arrived, and by noon Phoenix was still fast asleep, she awoke twice but fell right back into a deep sleep. The day passed by effortlessly, and Phoenix kept on dozing in and out of sleep. It felt deserved and when she awoke finally without hassle and drowsiness, the day had passed and it was night again. She stood up and made her way to the kitchen, opening the tap and drinking directly from it. The water was cooling and she felt refreshed after not drinking something for more than twelve hours. She looked at the clock that hung in the kitchen and shook her head. "Can't be." She said out loud, seeing the witching hour. She walked towards the window and was shocked to see that it was after twelve. The moon shining through the window. "Okay, so I slept through a whole day. I needed the sleep and I arrived late last night," she spoke out loud again as if there was someone listening. She looked around the gigantic cabin, it was one her father and grandfather built. The memories of when she was younger, with Rowen and her other siblings, played through her head, bringing a smile to her face. "Where did we go wrong? This witchy business is not for me... I never wanted my life to be like this. I mean I never wanted to be something that I'm not cut out to be. I was never designed for this. It was forced upon me. I miss my siblings. I miss Mason, Jinx, I miss my old life." She said looking around the room and feeling the tears streaming her face. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. She stood frowning, she was zoned out thinking of the 'what ifs' when the knock broke her daze. She frowned again staring at the door, another knock, and this time a little harder. "Who is it?" She asked, knowing that it is impossible for someone to knock. As she was secluded and her siblings would announce themselves. Her witchy senses were tingling and she knew that this presence was not of any warm nature. "Announce yourself!" She demanded, hearing nothing but silence. She wasn't stupid though. She knew this wouldn't be the last of whatever it was, but she had nothing to protect herself. She stood by the door for what felt the longest time, then made her way back to the couch. She looked at the door again, still getting an off feeling. Suddenly there was another knock, but on the window this time, a loud knock, then the knocking became rapid, on the walls, on the door and on all of the windows. Phoenix covered her ears as the knocking became more aggressive and fast. She paced to the door, and pulled it open with a force, seeing nothing but darkness outside. "Reveal yourself!" She shouted, causing the knocks to come to a complete stop. Silence filled the air and dread filled her gut.
"Phoenix..." She heard as she was about to close the door again, "Mom?" She asked amazed, staring at the figure standing in the doorway, "Invite me in my dear, I would like to hug you." "hug me? You're supposed to be in the hospital? Why aren't you in the hospital?" "Well, I thought that you could use some company, now invite me in!" "company? You were in a coma. How are you here?" "Just invite me in!"
Phoenix turned on her heels like the speed of light she ran to the kitchen and grabbed a handful of salt, as she walked back calmly to her mother's eerie figure she started to chant as loud as she could. " I call upon powers far and near To banish what's not welcome here! With salt as my charm, I banish what can cause me harm! Then I ask this charge I lay, send unwanted things away!" She threw the salt at her mother and heard a terrible scream as she shut the door and leaned behind it. Trying to catch her breath. She closed her eyes to control her breathing, that wasn't her mother, and that thing is definitely not going away.
"Well, I must say you really are your mother's daughter." She opened her eyes as soon as she heard a women's voice, "who are you and how did you get in here?" The woman was stunning in every way with this firey hair similar to her sister Pagan. Walked casually to the couch and took a seat. "Don't be scared, sweet child. My name is Rowena, and I've been sent here to help you..."
