Chapter 4
David entered his parents’ living room and dropped his hand luggage on the marble floor before walking over to where his mom stood waiting. He leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Hi, Mom.”
Her face crinkled into a smile. “David!” His mom, Elisa Landi, was still a beauty with her delicate features and rich auburn hair, despite the few lines of worry that now graced her face. David was sure he’d put them there when he left for the Army. His mom gave him a fierce hug and then held him away from her. “Let me look at you. I’ve missed you.” Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears.
“I’ve missed you too, Mom,” David said. “Don’t cry.”
His mom gave a tremulous laugh. “Who said I was going to cry?” She blinked a couple of times. “Something must have gotten in my eye.”
