The moon was shining luminously at the time of the night. Davina walked sluggishly to her room not saying a word to her father and mother which was rather unusual. Walking into her room, she looked at the magnificent mirror that was right in front of her. She tried to understand what was going on with her, of course, she wasn’t hallucinating neither was she dreaming. She was sleepy already and just then, she heard something fall. She looked behind her but found nothing. Probably, it was her imagination. She shook her head and peeped at her reflection in the mirror.
Davina closed her eyes and opened them again to be sure she wasn’t hallucinating. It wasn’t there anymore. She had initially seen the woman who had gifted her the necklace. Was this a dream? She questioned herself. Maybe not. It must have been the stress of the day. She got up quickly and climbed her bed, trying to push aside the thoughts forming in her head. It was a figment of her imagination.
Davina laid on the bed and the thought of Nathan crossed her mind. What a rude brat! She pouted her lips. Sooner than she expected, she fell asleep. Sara walked into her room moments after to check up on her as she knew something was bothering Davina. She sighed and sat by Davina's side who was fast asleep. She placed her arm on Davina’s head. She could not imagine the fact that the little girl was going to go through a lot as she was not an ordinary child. Suddenly, the thoughts of when she was about to have her crossed her mind. She also could not dismiss the stranger's promise to her. Fear gripped her heart. Even though she had agreed with herself that it was just a mere threat and it was not going to happen, she could not help but fear to see what the future holds and will unfold.
Sara frowned too as she watched Davina squeeze her face even though she was asleep. She looked at her daughter’s arm and shook her head in pity as she realize the small injuries on Davina's hand. Her daughter was just six years of age, she could not bear it as a tear fell from her eyes. She wished Jeremy would listen to her and let Davina grow a little more.
She planted a light kiss on Davina's cheeks and was about to leave when she felt Davina's tight grip on her fingers. She was taken aback as she thought Davina was asleep. She checked and discovered Davina was asleep.
“Stay away from her, stay away from what is mine!” Davina heard the voice again as she opened her eyes slowly. She looked around and realized she was tied to a chair.
“She isn’t yours. I am yours” The feminine voice yelled back.
“You were never mine, stay away from her. Steer clear of her!” The voice answered angrily. She watched the drama between the duo as she had no idea of what was happening. She struggled to set herself to move but even her hands and legs failed to cooperate. They failed to move.
“If she is going to be a stumbling block to our love, I am going to eliminate her!” The female voice yelled angrily.
“You were supposed to be my woman but what did you do? Now, I have someone else and I am in love with her. Destiny supports us. Fate supports us. Nature supports us” He smirked
“What!” The lady let out a thunderous, light but devilish laughter. For a while, Davina was scared. She had not heard anyone laugh like that.
“I need not nature's support. I need not fate's support. I don’t care about destiny support. I create my destiny, my fate, and my future. I want you and I would get you. “ She smiled at him before walking towards Davina. Slowly, with a wicked smile plastered on her face, she gently brought out a dagger.
"Davina! Come, leave there!" She heard her mother call. She looked around but could not see her mother.
“No…, no… no…” Davina tried to move backward but she couldn't move.
“No!” Davina jumped up in fear.
“It's just a nightmare.” Sara hugged her child; whose body quivered and shivered with fear. “Do you want to talk about it?” Sara added.
“Not at all. It’s so terrifying” Davina wept on her mother's bosom.
“You will be fine. It’s alright” Sara consoled as Davina's silent sobs sounded like a concert in her ears.
“I hope so” Davina answered.
Sara gently stroked her daughter’s hair till she fell asleep. She gently laid her on her bed and hoped she was going to sleep too since Davina was asleep already. Sara took a full glance at the room. She looked at every corner as she would do every day.
“Wakie wakie!” Jeremy sang melodiously to Davina's ear. He knew she would not want to wake up so he added the melodious tune to it making it melodious.
“Father!” She answered lazily as she turned on her bed.
“Wake up Davina, you would be late for your training.” He announced sternly. She stood up lazily and stretched lazily. She still wanted to sleep.
“Good morning father” She greeted as she rubbed her eyes.
“Good morning Davina. Join us for breakfast soon” Her father announced as he walked out of her room, giving her the privacy she needed. In no time, she was out. She hurriedly got prepared for what the day would bring. She determined not to get offended by Nathan no matter how annoying he could turn out to be.
Davina smiled before walking out of her room, the sweet aroma from the kitchen had covered everywhere.
“Morning mother” Davina greeted.
“Morning Davina. Are you fine now?” Her mother questioned as she picked a bowl and three eggs.
“Yes, I am” Davina bent to search for a glass of milk.
“Milk?” Her mother asked as she turned her back to Davina.
“Yes, milk. “ She replied quickly.
“By your upper left side” Sara answered as she brought out a small pot. Davina frowned as she brought forth a seat to climb on as her height could not be compared to the shelf on which her mother had placed the milk.
“Would you want to tell me your dream?” Sara paused and turned to Davina.
“It was a nightmare” Davina corrected.
“Nightmares are negative dreams.” Sara crossed her arms.
“Yes, mother but I can’t tell you. It is so dangerous. I can not tell you, I do not want you to feel scared or get worried cause of me” She explained. Sara looked at her daughter in surprise. Of course, it was no longer new to Sara that Davina had always had a matured personality since she began to talk and walk. She could not contain her shock as she stared at Davina. She wondered how mature she was going to be when she grows up.
“Mother, I can not wait for breakfast. I would just take this milk and leave” She turned to pour the milk into a glass and hurriedly gulped it down her throat.
“Bye mother!” Davina greeted as she walked out hurriedly. She didn’t want her mother to question her.
“Davina!” Sara called but Davina had gone quickly.
“Morning sweet” Jeremy planted a kiss on Sara's cheeks and lips. He had walked into the kitchen immediately after Davina had left.
“Jeremy” Sara called out softly, with a pleading tone.
“Yes?” He asked as he drank the remaining contents in the bottle of milk Davina had taken.
“Please” She placed her both hands together right in front of him.
“What is it, sweetheart? “ He questioned as he held her hands with his. “Say whatever you want, it is all yours” He smiled at her.
“Well…” She paused for a moment.
“Go on, I can hear you” He stared into her eyes which were blue in contrast to his grey eyeball.
“Davina….” She started.
“What about her? Did she do something wrong? What happened this time?” Jeremy questioned trying to figure out the answers to his questions.
“Not at all. Jeremy, Davina is just a child” Sara pleaded again.
“And?” He asked as he knew where the conversation was heading.
“Please spare her. She is still too young” Sara pleaded.
“Spare her? What do you mean? I am not going to kill her!” Jeremy answered as he was shocked and was in disbelief.
“No, I mean, well…. About the sword training…”
“Stop Sara. It is what the girl wants. Let her be”
“We don’t always get what we want in life” She answered.
“Maybe we don’t but while I exist, I will make sure to give her the best out of life. I will give her everything she wants” He replied defiantly.
“Even if it means death?”
“What!” He looked at her in disbelief.
“Even if it means death? Will you give her what she says she wants even if it means death?” She questioned again.
“Sara, you are taking this to the extreme” He frowned.
“No, I am not! I was the one who housed her here” Sara pointed at her stomach. “I housed her here for a period of time. I brought her forth to the world. She is my daughter!”
“And so is she. She is also my daughter”
“I know what it was like Jeremy, I know how difficult it is to birth a child. It isn’t so easy. I can’t afford to lose her. Before her happiness, her safety should come first” She fell to the floor and held Jeremy’s leg. She knelt with tears falling from her eyes.
“Please Jeremy, she is our daughter. Our only child, please do not make us lose her. Tell her to stop the training and she would. Jeremy please, I don’t want to lose my only child. Please have mercy on me” She pleaded.
“I wish I could but I am sorry” He bent to Sara's level as her eyes were getting swollen. He didn’t like seeing tears fall from her eyes. “I can't force Davina against her will. You know how much she had always wanted this but I promise you, if you can talk her out of it, then I promise you, I wouldn’t pressure her or disturb her again for it” He crossed his heart.
“Please..”
“Sara, I am sorry. That’s the best I can do. I have to go now” He walked out of the kitchen, going to face what the day would bring.
“You disrespectfully talked to me, I can beat you up!” Nathan crossed his arms as he stood as a hindrance for Davina. He was determined not to let her in.
“You can’t cause if you can, you would have done that since yesterday. Why did you run away?” She crossed her arms.
“Are you challenging me?” He asked angrily.
“You might be more skilled than I am in sword fighting but I can beat you up!” Davina boasted.
“Really? You little thing? Are you not two years of age?” He pretended to think hard.
“I am not two years old dumbo. Would a two-year-old be able to walk from her house here? Can a two-year-old child handle a sword?” She questioned.
“Well, I don’t know. Maybe you could tell me how you were able to do it” He smiled at her.
“I also don’t know cause I am six. Six years of age!” She screamed at him.
“It makes no difference to me. All that matters is you are a child.” He smirked.
“Do you want to see the power of a young girl like me?” She clenched her tiny fist.
“You seriously want to return home with a broken bone, right?” He questioned as he clenched his fist too.
“You asked for this” He walked closer to her. She looked at him with no iota of fear in her eyes. She was willing to deal with him and showed him where he belong. As soon as he was about to hit her, they both heard a gunshot.
“Ahhh!” Davina fell to the floor, face flat.
