Chapter 2 - Trip to a trap

1738 Words
Myra's POV My family is my strength and leads me to achieve my dreams. After joining my first job, I am planning to enroll for my post graduation through correspondence course. It will be a surprise for everyone because I am going to tell them only after getting the certificates. I went to bed early as we will be leaving for Rome early in the morning. Papa will drop me at the railway station to catch the early morning train. I woke up by 4.00, took a nice shower and changed into my favourite jeans and white checked shirt. Dried my hair and tied it up in a ponytail. Then I packed another pair of dresses in my backpack and safely kept the cash papa gave me yesterday in the inside pocket of the bag. Kept the few changes I had in my pocket and looked around to check if I had forgotten anything. My eyes stopped on the dressing table and thought about what to take. Since I am not very fond of makeup, I just took my moisturizer and lip gloss and kept it in the bag. It was twenty minutes past five when finally I came out. As I thought mamma was in the kitchen. She has definitely packed something for the journey. "Mamma, I'm not going to take any of your chapatis and dal." I said and looked at papa with pleading eyes. "I didn't make anything Indian. Just some sandwiches and some tea." She said, showing me the thermos flask and the wrapped sandwich. "I am not going to carry that flask all through my journey. I will just take the sandwiches" I pouted. "You don't have to worry about carrying the flask. It's on me and aunt Sush made it for me. She knows how much I love her tea." Sofia said from the doorway. "Good morning Sofia, you said that you will wait for me at the station?" I asked. "Yes I did but then I changed my mind. Actually, I knew that you were not going to take the tea. That's why I am here. Mom dropped me here as she is also going out of town to meet her friend." Sofia said. "Fine, then keep the sandwiches too. I don't want my dress to smell like sandwiches." I said, "Then let's repack our bags. You keep my dress in yours and I will keep all the eatables in mine." Sofia said, "What do you mean? Are you taking more food with you?" I asked in shock. "Of course I am. I have taken some cans of coke and chip packs with me." She raised her hand showing the disposable bag. "Okay, let's do it." I said sitting on the couch. We quickly repacked our bags and that's when mamma came with the sandwiches and flask. Sofia packed it in her bag. That's when mamma asked. "Myra, have you kept your charger?" "Oops, I forgot my phone!" I got up and ran back to my room. It's actually my habit to forget my phone. I just use it either to text or to call someone. I don't even have any social media accounts nor do I use my phone to use the internet. I always like to use my laptop to use the internet. My friends always tease me and say that I don't need a smartphone. They even gave me a feature phone for my last birthday. I grabbed my phone, headphones and charger and ran back to the hall. I like to hear music while travelling. "Let's go, Cindy will be waiting for us at the station." I said and quickly gave my mother a hug and kiss. "Call when you get there." Mamma said before kissing me back. "Say my goodbye to Sunny when he wake up. Bye." I said and got on the car. By the time we reached the station, Cindy was waiting for us. We took the train by 6:30. We had a wonderful journey having sandwiches and tea. It was about 20 minutes past 10 by the time we reached Rome. Cindy had already called her cousin and arranged for our stay at her place. Her cousin was staying with her husband and children in a villa. They had two spare rooms and invited us to stay with them. By the time we reached the villa, it was already 30 minutes past 12. It's not because the villa was far away from the station, but because we went to an art gallery near the station. Sofia is really fond of art and never misses a chance to explore new things. Cindy's cousin Gladys welcomed us and made us comfortable. Her husband was out of town and was really happy to welcome us. She had a six year old son and two year old daughter. Just to take us out, she dropped her children off at her parents' place. After lunch, Gladys took us to various places. Sofia wanted to visit the Borghese Gallery and Gardens while Cindy and I wanted to go to the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine. "You will have to stay here for at least 4 days to see at least half of Rome." Gladys said, "No, we can't see that long. Actually, Sofia is joining our first job in five days." I said, "You can at least stay for another day. Then you could visit Vatican City and take the pope's blessings." Gladys said, A visit to Vatican City would be an achievement and that too to get a chance to see the pope would be like the cherry on the cake. We were really excited that Sofia at once agreed. "But I have to ask my parents." I said, "Ask them now because I have to book the tickets to papal audience." Gladys said, I quickly called papa and took his permission for another day. I will just have to buy a new dress. So it was decided to explore Rome to its fullest. For the day we went to Borghese Gallery and Gardens and then to some shopping places. I bought a new blue dress which almost reached my ankles. I am not very fond of short dresses. After dinner we went back to the villa. Gladys's parents were waiting with the kids at the villa. Whenever her husband is out of town, her parents come and stay with her. Since we were staying, they had other plans. They just came to drop off the kids. Sofia and I shared the same room. Next day we woke up early to go and see more places. By the time the day ended, we were all exhausted. Next day we had to go to the Vatican City. I wasn't able to sleep soundly just by the thought of visiting the place. We left for the Vatican City after breakfast. It took us about half an hour to reach the place. We walked around the city and when it was time for the pop to show up, we gathered on the road. After receiving pop's blessings, we returned back. It was already evening and so we went straight to the railway station. There was heavy traffic and so we had to get down the car on the opposite side of the road. We thanked Gladys and crossed the road. Sofia was the one to notice a new Ferrari Portofino stopped at the signal. I am not a fan of cars but this car impressed me. Sofia and Cindy were talking about the features of the car while I was thinking about the person inside the car. Whoever owned the car would be really rich. With a smile I turned around and headed to the station. It was 6 when finally our train arrived. Another 4 hours journey back to Milan wasn't easy as we came here. All three of us were tired and so we did not talk much. Papa was waiting for me with Sunny. We dropped Sofia at her place and then went to our home. I was so exhausted that I just changed and went to bed. Next day when I woke up it was already eleven in the morning. Since I slept without bathing, I took a shower first before going out. Mamma had already prepared my favourite poori bhaji for breakfast. After having my breakfast I sat down to give a detailed description about my trip to mamma. It was 1:00 when suddenly papa and Sunny came home. "Why did you come early Mahesh?" Mamma asked. "There is something important. I got a call to be here within an hour and that too from my higher authorities." Papa said. "What are you doing here Sunny? Don't you have classes?" I asked. "Dean called me personally and asked me to go back home. He said some surprise is waiting for us." Sunny said, We all were confused when the bell rang. Papa went and opened the door to find about five men in black suits reminding us of some movie scene. We all were in a trance when the one in the middle spoke. "I am Roberto Bianchi. I came here on behalf of Carlo Ricci." I saw papa flinching in shock just by hearing that name. I don't know where I heard it but it seems familiar. I turned to see Sunny's expression and he also seemed to be shocked. I turned around and looked at mamma but she didn't show any shocked expression. That means that she doesn't know who Carlo Ricci is. Without any invitations they entered the house and looked around. When the last man entered, he closed the door and locked it. I didn't know what to say and so I just moved to a corner. The man who introduced himself as Roberto Bianchi, took out an envelope from his pocket and gave it to papa. "This is an order from Carlo Ricci. Please go through it and keep it signed by tomorrow. You just have 24 hours. I hope you know what it means to go against Carlo Ricci. It's actually a great opportunity. You will get everything you could never dream of. You have nothing to lose. You can stay in this country as long as you wish. We will come tomorrow and by then be ready." He said the last sentence looking at me and then left.
