I woke early to the sound of waves and the palm trees rustling as the light wind blew through its leaves. I got up and put on a long satin robe I walked barefoot to the patio door I pushed my hand against the cold door. My reflection looked better than what I did when I first came here. I slid the door open, I turned to light the cigarette that had been laying on the dresser. I stepped onto the cold stones and made my way down the stairs the fresh air blowing through my long curls a gust of wind blew my robe open and I almost gasped as I felt a wave of goosebumps rush across every part of my body.
I looked at the lighting sky, and felt the ice cold water caress my toes. I closed my eyes and c****d my head to the right. I took in the deepest breath till I felt the smell of the ocean enter my heart and lungs till the tips of my toes. It felt amazing to actually breathe after feeling suffocated for months.
"Ms. its time for your departure all we need is for you to sign the release forms." The soft voice said behind me. I turned with no emotion on my face. "Its Miss."
I got back to Italy today. This place where I experienced so much heartache. I lost so much the last time I was here and now Im here again after six months away from the people I love. I guess I just lost my s**t and myself too in the midst of everything.
I pulled up to the massive gate I pressed the button on my remote a pit made its way into my stomach, my fingers started trembling as the gates opened. I kept my foot on the brake pedal slowly taking in the scenery, I started driving an eerie chill made its way down my back. I had my last carefree moment one morning in this very place I smiled a little at the memory as I walked into my empty house.
My childhood home now stood abandoned, some but very few pieces of furniture taken with. I looked around and my eyes landed on a letter. My eyes scanned the page in desperation a part of me hopeful that near the end I was just imagining things. But unfortunately I was very wrong.
She really was gone. My hands shook as the pain enveloped my heart. I suffered three great loses here. There was no sound, absolute nothing but the sound of my black platform ankle boots. I reached into the pocket of my trench coat for my box of Marlboro. I walked outside to the canopy. I looked at the lake. The water no longer glittering instead it looked murky.
This is where I started the last day of who I used to be. I flicked my lighter and heard my cigarette crackle as it lit up with every breath of smoke that left my mouth I also sang warrior by Demi Lovato. I read the letter one more time.
Dear Little Isabella
I know you are no longer a little girl. Please don't think we abandoned you we did what we had to so that you can have a free life. One of peace without war and sorrow. I cannot say loss because unfortunately you have experienced so much loss within such a short space of time but you deserve to finally read the letters our parents left for you.
We also left money in your account to get you through the next few years, there's enough for you to go to college anywhere your heart desires. There is an old family property in New Orleans that you can go to anytime and as you have observed we sent the jet back for you to make use of.
I know that things wont take the place of the rest of our family but we couldn't leave you with nothing so please understand that we were in a difficult position. Be well Isie. Take care of yourself please.
Love Paolo
I heard giggles in the distance and turned to see a girl run through the hills. Her small feet crushing grass and flowers her smile brought tears to my eyes and her blue eyes dancing when the sun hit it. I turned away and walked back into the house seeing a shadow looking from my curtains I reached for my gun as I made my way into the house using a secret entrance making sure I was as stealthy as I possibly could be. I entered my old room and a woman with short black hair was looking through pictures of me.
"So you are the girl that has caused me so much trouble." Pardon the intrusion I decided it was about time we met. The sound of her voice came out as rough as gravel. She turned around with her arms spread and a smirk on her face.
She started walking towards me I got such a fright I almost tripped over my own feet. When I saw her deep blue eyes. She had a scar running from just before her eyebrow till mid cheek.
"Who the f**k are you and what are you doing in my room?" I hissed at her but nothing changed she just smirked and c****d her head to the side and looked at me. "Don't worry were not related." She stated then raised her eyebrow
We were the same height, we had the same mouth but her eyes they were filled with light and mischief.
"So I take it you haven't read your parents letter yet." Well I might as well introduce myself then. She swaggered towards me and as she removed her hand from her pocket. "My name is …"
