It was stormy as I sat in the carriage that was set to arrive at the enemy's castle. I, Arabella Fern Blackwood, was scheduled to marry the enemy at dawn. It was only tradition and our countries were on the brink of war, what else was I to do? I was of age and it was time I become queen of another kingdom. So, my parents married me off.
When we arrived it was twilight and I had to get ready for my wedding. I was dressed in a white satin dress with a corset which hugged my body perfectly. My dress was beautiful and had flower embroidery on it with lace. I had my hair done up in a braided bun on the top of my head with a glistening tiara placed on top of my white veil. I was helped into white lace up heeled boots as my new handmaid laced and tied them for me. I finally held a bouquet of white roses in my hands and finally it was time for the wedding.
My hands slightly shook as I walked down the red aisle with the veil in front of my face. I was on the brink of tears, I didn't want to get married but I had to for my kingdom. Everything blurred together and before I knew it, my veil was being lifted and I was being kissed by the man I hated. I wanted to recoil into myself as my hands became clammy and the wedding ceremony was over.
Once I was eventually taken to my new room I was undressed and helped into a nightgown before I cried in my bed for the rest of the night. My husband was cruel to me and often would fool around with other women, so I slept with my handmaid. I never really liked men but in this era that was frowned upon. I smiled as my handmaid Eveline came in to help me get ready for the day.
"Good morning your majesty" she says with a soft smile as she helps me into a corset and dresses me. "Good day, Eveline" I say with a smile "I hear there's a woman in town who helps women with husbands that dare to strike and betray" Eveline says as she combs my hair. "Eveline, we can't, Adam for one is far from naive and I would be put in the dungeons or executed" I say "then I shall tell the townsfolk of his misdeeds towards you and get the poison for you. I love you my queen. He does nothing for this country" Eveline says and I only sighed and shook my head.
"And I love you Eveline, but we can't kill the king" I say and she nods sadly. "Don't look so glum my dear, we're going into the kingdom, today is the festival let us have some fun" I say with a smile as I kiss her. This gesture made her smile as she did my hair and helped me into some heels. I made sure to bring along my coin purse as I happily walked among the streets, Eveline guided me into a shop and a beautiful woman came to greet us.
"Good day your majesty, how can I be of service?" She asked and Eveline perked up "We're here for the 'angel lipstick'" she says and the shop owner immediately perked up. "Good heavens, the king is that cruel? I knew it, I'll make sure to alert everyone of his wrong doings" she says as she hands me a small container in the shape of lipstick from the back. "I wish you the best" she says as I pay her and I look down at the container am I really going to do this I thought before Eveline nodded and smiled reassuringly.
That night I slipped the poison in his drink and when he went to bed he never woke up. I also gained full control of the crown as rumors about him spread like wildfire. I was queen and Eveline became a princess, right as I found out I was pregnant with the previous king's child, because of him sneaking into my room at night when he was alive.
I then found out, not all stories end where you want them to.
