The Cost of Betrayal The storm raged outside, a perfect mirror of the turmoil brewing within the Moretti estate. Rain pelted the windows in heavy sheets, casting eerie shadows across Alessandro’s office. Valeria stood rigid, watching as Alessandro clenched the paper she had given him, his jaw tight with restrained fury. The revelation of Luca’s betrayal had shaken the very foundation of his empire, and now, it was time to act. "Where is he now?" Alessandro's voice was deceptively calm, but the menace beneath it was unmistakable. Valeria swallowed hard. "Still at the warehouse, as far as I know. He doesn’t suspect that I overheard them." Alessandro’s dark eyes flicked to one of his men. "Bring him in. Alive." His enforcer, a hulking man named Rocco, nodded once and strode out of the office without another word. Valeria watched Alessandro carefully. He wasn’t just furious—he was calculating. Every move he made was deliberate, controlled, as though he were already ten steps ahead of Luca. "You're certain about what you heard?" he asked, his voice quieter now, but no less lethal. She met his gaze, refusing to back down. "Yes. Luca has been feeding information to the Castellanos for months. Your trust in him nearly cost you everything." Alessandro exhaled slowly, rubbing his temple. "And you risked your life to uncover the truth." His gaze darkened as he stepped closer, his presence suffocating. "Do you have any idea how reckless that was?" Valeria squared her shoulders. "I did what needed to be done." His fingers brushed her chin, tilting her face up slightly. "One day, your defiance will get you killed, Valeria." She refused to look away. "Or it might just save your life." A muscle in his jaw ticked, but before he could respond, the doors to the office swung open. Rocco entered, dragging a bloodied Luca behind him. Valeria’s stomach twisted at the sight of him—his once-pristine suit was torn, his lip split, and his eyes burned with a mix of fury and desperation. "Alessandro," Luca gasped, struggling against Rocco's grip. "You know me. You know I would never betray you!" Alessandro remained eerily still. "I trusted you, Luca. For years." Luca’s gaze darted to Valeria, realization dawning in his eyes. "It was her, wasn’t it?" His voice dripped with venom. "She fed you lies—" A sharp c***k echoed through the room as Alessandro’s fist connected with Luca’s jaw. The force of the blow sent him sprawling to the floor. "Watch how you speak to her," Alessandro warned, his voice deadly calm. Luca groaned, spitting blood onto the polished floor. "You're making a mistake," he rasped. "The Castellanos... they have more power than you think. If you kill me, they'll come for you." Alessandro crouched down, gripping Luca’s throat in a brutal hold. "If I let you live, they’ll see it as weakness. And I am not weak." Luca gasped, clawing at Alessandro’s wrist. "Please... I can make this right—" Valeria watched, her heart pounding. She had thought she would feel satisfaction, but instead, all she felt was a deep, suffocating weight pressing down on her chest. Alessandro tightened his grip for a long moment before shoving Luca back. He rose slowly, brushing off his suit. "You don't deserve a quick death," he murmured. "But I don’t have time to waste on a rat like you." He turned to Rocco. "Make it slow." Luca’s eyes went wide. "No, please—" Rocco dragged him out of the office, his screams echoing through the halls before the door slammed shut. Silence filled the room. Valeria let out a shaky breath, meeting Alessandro’s gaze. "It had to be done," he said simply. She nodded, though something inside her twisted at the cold efficiency of it all. "This war isn’t over," she said quietly. "If Luca was working with them, then they’re already planning something bigger." Alessandro stepped closer, his gaze burning into hers. "And that is why I need you by my side." Valeria’s breath caught as he reached out, his fingers trailing lightly down her arm. The heat between them was undeniable, dangerous. "You want my trust," he murmured. "You've earned it. But that means no more reckless moves without me." Valeria hesitated. She had spent so long fighting against him, resisting his control. But now, with the storm of war brewing around them, she wasn’t sure she could fight this battle alone. For now, she would play his game. She lifted her chin. "Then we bring the fight to them." Alessandro’s lips curled in to a slow, dangerous smile. "Now you're speaking my language." To Be Continued…
