Chapter 2 The Homecoming

802 Words
Vincent's POV Vincent Harrison gazed out the window as the plane descended through Harlow city airport. A faint smile shows on Vincent's handsome face. After many years studying law in another country, he was finally returning home. Although he had really missed home and he is very excited returning to be with his family. The Harrison family was one of the most influential and wealthiest families in Harlow city. Grace Harrison, was fiercely over protective of the Harrison family reputation. Dominic, his elder brother, was the future heir of the Harrison empire. His sister, Olivia, was mannerless, spoiled and stubborn. Then his fiancee, Sarah Prescott. His engagement with Sarah had never been his decision. Both families years ago agreed that a union between the Harrisons and Prescotts would strengthen their business relationship. Vincent and Sarah had never been in love or even close to each other, but none of them had ever fought against the engagement. But to Vincent, he knew within himself that he could never marry someone he didn't love. Ever since the plane arrived at Harlow city, Vincent has been thinking about his elder brother's wife Chloe. He hadn't seen her in years. Back to when they were younger, Chloe has always been quiet, gentle, hardworking and kind. When he learned that she had married his brother Dominic, he had been genuinely happy for her that his brother would take good care of her, protect and love her. Vincent came down as the plane finally stopped. For the first time in years, he was finally back home. A convoy of luxury cars waited at the Harlow city airport to take him home. "Welcome home, Mr. Harrison." The driver greeted him. Vincent smiled. "It's good to be home." The drive towards the Harrison mansion took an hour. Vincent noticed how the city environment had changed. Finally the Harrison family enormous estate gate opened, the cars rolled into the estate. Staff members lined up at the mansion entrance waiting patiently as Vincent stepped out from the car. "Welcome home, Mr. Harrison." The Harrison employees greeted him warmly. He smiled. Unlike his mother, brother and sister, he never mistreated employees. He still remembered most of the old staff by their names. The mansion's entrance door opened and Grace rushed out and embraced her son whom she had missed and hadn't seen for years since he left for studies. Olivia also rushed forward and hugged her brother tightly. Then Vincent's eyes moved toward Dominic who stood several feet away. The two brothers firmly exchanged a handshake. "Welcome back home brother." Dominic said. "Thank you." Dominic and Vincent have always respected each other, but their relationship was never a close one. As everyone moved towards the entrance door, Vincent noticed someone standing quietly near the doorway. Chloe. She looked different from the girl he remembered. She was now more beautiful and more mature. Chloe offered a polite smile. "Welcome home, Vincent." She said with a gentle voice. As usual, Vincent smiled. "It's good to see you again, Chloe." But before Vincent could say anything else, Olivia interrupted. "Come on. Mom has been planning your welcome dinner for months." As they walked inside the mansion, Vincent kept glancing repeatedly at Chloe. He had the feeling that everything wasn't right with Chloe because he could remember back then that Chloe was always cheerful but right now she looks unhappy despite her trying to hide it but Vincent still noticed it. All important personalities in and outside Harlow city attended Vincent welcome dinner. Towards the evening of that same day, Vincent stepped onto one of the mansion balconies seeking for fresh air. He was attracted by two voices and when he listened closely, he could hear his brother's voice and a female familiar voice which he couldn't finalize whose voice it was but after much thought, he recognized the voice as Sarah's, and he instantly froze. His fiancee and his brother. Why were they meeting alone? He listened very carefully. "How much longer do we have to keep pretending?" Sarah asked. Dominic immediately told her to reduce her voice so that someone won't hear their conversation. "I'm tired of waiting." "And I'm tired of hearing excuses." Sarah said. Vincent felt something was really wrong about their conversation. He wanted to listen more to the conversation to get clear information on what they were discussing about but he was told by a servant that his mother needed his presence. Although he didn't hesitate because he was more interested in the conversation between his brother and his fiancee. Finally he realized that his brother and Sarah had entered back into the mansion. From that moment, Vincent knew something was hidden and he suspected that the family was keeping lots of secrets and he promised himself to find out everything.
