Chapter Two Christian Pov “Then send the report to my office, this meeting is adjourned.” I said and rose from my seat, my assistant followed closely behind me as i left the conference room. My phone buzzed in my pocket and when i pull out my device i tried not to roll my eyes at the screen. “What?!” my voice came out harder than intended but Daren knew better than to take my response to heart. “Did it end that bad?” He asked as i pushed opened the door to my office. “No, it ended just fine.” i responded and unbuttoned my suit jacket, i placed the phone down and put it on speakers. I hanged my jacket on the cloth rack and raked my fingers through my hair, “Right, i forget that you’re always grumpy.” Daren siad, if he wasn’t my brother i would’ve ended the call a long time ago. “Your mothers coming in today, did she tell you that?” i halted. My mother was coming to the city and if there was anything i knew, it was that my mother brought trouble. “She doesn’t need to, she can do whatever she wants-” “That’s not such a nice way to think of your mother.” Daren teased and i leaned against my chair. “Anyways how are you preparing for the partnership?” “Oh, i’m going all out for this one. It’s going to be the biggest hit when it goes well, our stock prices would double in the comming weeks.” I said boldly and walked towards the window where i had an overhead view of the area. “If-” Daren interrupted. I frowned glanced down at the road which was filled with cars and people rushing on the side walk. “You mean ‘if’ you get the contract.” Daren stated more clearly. “Incase you’ve forgotten, the partnership is with no other than a Westley, you know what that means right?” Of Course how could i forget, this was the biggest thing for me and it had to be in the hands of a westly. “He’s going to be quite difficult to please but you always had the charm for these kind of people, when are you supposed to meet him again?” Daren asked and i glanced down at my watch at the same time a knock came on my door. “In the next fifteen minutes.” i muttered as my secretary popped her head in, i waved her off letting her know i was aware of the incoming meeting. “Damn, that’s wow- anyways, lets go out for some drinks tonight, i’m sure you can give me the full talk about how it goes down over over priced Martinis.” He said humorously and i agreed. The call ended and my secretary comes back around with her phone to her ear. “Yes, he’s in-” her eyes met with mine and her lips moulded in a firm line as she listened to whoever it was on the phone. “I-” my phone rang and i glanced down at the screen. It was my mother. My secretary turned to me with a sheepish smile. ‘Mrs. Sterling is on the line for you.” She said and i nodded, i watched the phone ring for a while and even while i wanted to ignore it, i knew better than to sideline my mother. I answered the phone and placed it on speakers while i glanced at the screen with contempt. “Mother.” i said curtly. “Chris, took you long enough to answer.” she answered, i could imagine ehr checking on her nails. I remained silent, making sure not to indulge her in a conversation she wanted to start. “I am coming back to the city- did your brother tell you?” “Yes, he did.” “Good, then did he tell you about the dinner we would be having tomorrow?” I frowned, Daren didn’t mention anything about Dinner with our mother, why didn’t he mention it on the phone? “From your silence it seems like he didn’t.” she said, “Well then, you know that now. Should i be expecting a plus one?” Here she goes again. “No.” i said firmly. “Christian-” she was full blown serious. “It’s about time you left all those your one night stands and settle down.” she said. “What would your father think of you?” I closed my eyes as her words resounded in my head. I expected her to play this card but not this soon. “He’s not here to see me wasting my time now, is he?” I muttered coldly. “I’m not going to let you have that freedom Christian, bring a girl you’re serious about or i’ll find one for you.” I opened my eyes. “You wouldn’t” “Try me christian, remember i’m still the biggest share holder in the company, if you don’t do as i say, you won’t have what you need.” my hands clenched around the phone and my eyes narrowed in. “If that’s all, have a nice day.” She ended the call before i could say anything more. Damn It! Damn it! “f!@K!!” I muttered under my breath. ………………………………………………………………………………………… When i entered the restaurant, i was directed towards the table of reservation, the place was barely occupied and it was perfect for whatever i had to do. “Mr. Sterling, it’s so nice to see you.” The receptionist said with a bright smile but there was nothing to smile about. “Is he here yet?” I asked instead and she nodded. I stepped further inside, at least this meeting was going to brighten up my already depressing day. My eyes found Mr. Westley and he smiled when his eyes caught unto me, i would’ve returned the smile immediately if not for the second person sitting next to him. It was a woman with blonde hair which was curled and framed her face. “Christian- you’re on time.” He said as he stood up to greet me with a handshake, i took his hands and shook them firmly while i tried to keep the confusion out of my face. “Yes, you must be wondering who this is, Christian this is Aurora,” he turned to the blonde haired woman who equally had a bright smile on her face. “Aurora, this is Christian.” “Nice to meet you Christian,” She said and pulled me in for a brief kiss to the cheeks, she was prim and very proper. “Nice to meet you too Aurora.” i said. “Great, she’s my girlfriend soon to be you know-” the rest of his words blurred out at the announcement of who the woman was. “I had no idea you were engaged.” I tried to hide my surprise. I knew everything about everyone but this went under my nose. “It’s all private, Aurora didn’t want the hoarding-” He answered and i nodded in understanding. “In fact we wouldn’t be meeting today if she hadn’t talked me into it.” he said and turned to her and i tried my best not to cringe at the way they looked at each other. “She’s my everything and i would listen to whatever she says.” He said and held her hands. “That’s beautiful, i would do anything my girlfriend wants too-” The words trailed out from my mouth and i wanted to stab myself. “You have a girlfriend?” Aurora’s eyes lightened and he looked at me with a raised brow. “Yes Christian, you have a girlfriend?” “Yes, she’s a sweet heart.” the vile words kept coming. ‘Wow, thats wonderful. I would really love to meet her, i do need a bit of company while you two finalize on this partnership-” she said and my ears popped up. Did she just? I turned to Markus who didn’t seem to mind. “You’re going to partner with him, aren’t you?” Aurora said to Markus who eyed me and then turned back to Aurora, “Sure, i mean he does know how to do business. Why not?” Did i just secure a deal because of some blonde haired chick? Was it really this simple? “That’s going to be awesome.” I said in relief. “Sure, we can sort the paper work this weekend-” Markus said. “Yes, you two should come for a small dinner we are hosting.” Aurora said with a bright smile. “Sure, that’s perfect. We can work on the signing then. Is that okay with you?” “That’s just great.” I answered. Now all i needed was to find this girlfriend i boldly speak of, and i had less than two days to find her or i am going to be in a deep mess.
