Chapter Three
Sarah Pov
“What do you mean you won’t continue the treatment?” I hissed as i sat in the doctors office, my hands gripped both sides of the arm rest.
The man in front of me sighed and removed his glasses which shielded his brown eyes.
“I’m saying that this is as far as we can go with the treatment until you pay something-” He said and rubbed his eyes, the man had been through a lot especially with people like me.
“But- can’t you continue while i source for the rest of the cash-” I tried to explain but he was already shaking his head turning down my request.
“I’m sorry Miss but this has nothing to do with what i want, its the hospitals policy. We can’t continue until we have some sort of payment on ground.” He said and his attention moved to the computer screen in front of him.
“Please- how long is this going to be- i can source for soemthing- i will, if you just give me sometime.” I muttered but he was having none of it.
“Look, i know that you’re a hard w**********l who is trying her best to look after her mother but you’ll have to try harder if you want to make it work.” He said and i slumped back in my chair and chewed hard on my buttom lips.
“Okay, thanks” i said like a zombie and headed for the door. I inhaled and closed my eys one last time before i stepped out into the hallway. This was a series of bad events and i was the main character. I olayed with my fingers and stared down at my feet as i walked down the hallway.
I stopped in front of the door that led to the room where mum stayed in and with a deep sigh i pushed it open. Auntie Mia sat just beside mum and held her hands, she turned to me with sad eyes and a small smile on her face.
“How’s she?” I asked and she turned back to mum who was asleep.
“Better i think, what did the doctor say?” She asked and i tried to hold back on the tears threatening to spill from my eyes.
“Nothing.” i muttered but my voice came out hoarse.
“Sarah- you really don’t have to lie to me.” She said and i brushed my hair behind my ear, giving my face some space.
“I- he-” i stammered and turned to mum. “They’re not going to continue until i pay up some percentage of the fees- i-” I turned away from them and looked at the mirror.
“Sarah, i’m sure we can figure something out.” Auntie may said and i licked on my lips.
“Yeah, we can.” i said.
“Why don’t you go back home and freshen up, i’ll be here with her. You look exhausted Sarah.”
“I’m fine-”
“No you’re not.” she said Firmly and i knew better than to argue. “Go Sarah, your mither would want you to take care of yourself, don’t make her worry.” I contemplated but obeyed and with one last glance at them, i sighed and a kiss to the cheek, i left them alone.
I was in the bus when my phone started ringing. It was Claire.
“Hey love,” her cherry voice greeted and it made me smile a little.
“Hey.” i replied.
“How are you?” she asked and i sighed, “You sound weird- are you okay?”
‘Yeah-”
“Doesn’t sound like it though, where are you?” I glanced out of the window, i was nearing my stop and i rose to my feet.
“On my way home, i need to clean up before i get back to the hospital.” I dropped down from the bus and started walking home when i saw the tappings around the area.
“Sarah- are you still there?” Claire asked but my attention was else where and most importantly it was fixated on the man who was giving orders.
“I’ll call you back-” I said to claire and walked up to the man, he was dressed in plain shirt and jeans and had a hat on his head.
“Excuse me, what in the world is going on?” I asked and he turned to me.
“Are you a resident here?” He asked as he stared at me up and down,
‘Yes, i live in there. Thats my house.” I said as the confusion ate further into me.
“Well then you must’ve have heard of the upcoming demolition.”
“What? No- no this has to be a mistake. I haven’t heard of anything- you don’t have the right to do this.” I said with my breath constricting around me,
“I’m sorry miss, but notice had gone round six months ago, i’m sure you must’ve received it.”
“I-” why can’t i remember the notice, if it had come around i should’ve seen it. “I- but why today? Why not next week, i’m sure i can figure something out before then-”
“I’m sorry miss but we have an order and- he’s here.” the man looked at something behind my shoulders and i followed his line of vision. A black highlander stopped right in front of the rest of the workers who seemed to hurry up on setting the tapes. My eyes remained glued to the door waiting to see who it was and when the doors opened, sharp black suit fitted unto a tall frame exited the car, his hair shone under the afternoon light and his eyes covered by black ray bans. His face was a solid square shape with sharp jawline, and high cheek bones, i stared and admired the adonis in front of me.
“He’s here.” i heard the man behind me said and the man in the suit had his attention towards us, i wasn’t sure if he was staring but eventually he started towards us and i swallowed. Nothing about me was amusing, my hair was in a greasy bun on top of my hair, my face wasn’t as moisturised and nothing about my jeans and overside hoodie was glorious.
When the man stopped in front of me, he removed his glasses revealing very familiar eyes.
“What’s the delay Andrew, i don’t remember paying you to stand around.” The man in the suit said, ignoring my presence.
“Mr. Sterling- i uh- one of the occupants wasn’t aware of the-” Fierce eyes stared at me piercing through every inch of me at the same time emaciating hit from the depth of my stomach.
“I see that we meet again-” he said with a relaxed tone and i frowned.
“Sorry?”
“You don’t have a good memory too, its the second time we’re meeting and i can count two things wrong with you, your sight and your memory.”
It was then that everything comes crashing back.
He was the guy from the bar.
