His Penitence

CHAPTER FIVE

It is finally the day of execution; the fat guard is through with the head count as usual, leaving us with exactly five minutes before the next guard arrives.

“Celeste, hurry”, panic coated my voice,

“I'm almost done,” she says, carefully undoing the chain and opening the cage,

“c’mon” creeping silently and successfully getting out the door, I followed Celeste's lead,

We make it to a hallway, hearing footsteps we hide behind a door holding our breaths to prevent them from spotting us,

Slowly we made our way outside into the woods,

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” my blood literally freezing at the sound of Eularia's voice,

“Where do you think you're going? Foolish little pup? She adds with a sneer,

“Penny, how? Celeste says with fright,

What did we miss?

Looking down at my palm, I realize,

The sigil,

That's how she found us. We are so dead,

“let's run, Penny!!”

“Penny, Penny”. Celeste keeps screaming, but my legs remain still,

Eularia begins chanting a spell, my treacherous legs remain still, refusing to move.

I can see the build up of magic, her hands glowing red,

I already feel the heat, even when it hasn't touched me yet,

This is the end, who would have thought I'll die so soon?

To be fair, I was so convinced that I'd die earlier,

Closing my eyes and anticipating the pain, no matter what it is and how it feels, it won't be worse than having a mating bond severed.

Seeing my life flash before my eyes, I realize that I don't really have any good memories or good moments,

Celeste shifts and dives towards me, knocking me out of the way and saving me but not herself.

She gets hit by Eularia's magic and falls to the ground, completely immobile.

“ Celeste!! Celeste!!”

“Noooooo!!”

I scream till my voice becomes hoarse, I'm feeling all of my pent-up anger,

I can't explain what happened next, but I can see my palm glowing and the sigil burning off,

Then my entire surrounding area bursts into flames,

I could hear screams in the background, but I couldn't stop,

I didn't stop till all that was left was ash and dust, then I passed out.

I opened my eyes to blinding light and a lot of questions on my mind,

What's going on? Where am I?

Celeste? My baby?

Placing my hand on my stomach, I couldn't feel any movement,

Oh no!

Not again..

“Breathe, try and calm down”, tensing up upon hearing a voice,

“I won't hurt you here,” he says, offering me water,

Drinking greedily and taking time to observe the environment, I'm in some kind of hospital.

“How are you feeling today?” he asked, but I didn't respond, feeling very distrustful.

“I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself. I'm Doctor Easton. You were rescued from a rogue settlement and have been in a coma for about a week.”

“Coma? What do you mean by coma?” genuinely confused,

“My baby? What happened to my baby?”

“I'm so sorry we lost him, he was already dead before you were brought in, so we had to evacuate him”, Dr Easton says, with sadness visible in his features.

Our baby was a boy. There's officially no bond between me and Devin anymore,

My baby is gone, Celeste is gone,

What did I do to deserve this, Moon Goddess, why?

My son was my only beacon of hope, and now he's gone.

Celeste, too, was my rock. My backbone gone,

Where do I begin my life from? How do I even begin when I have nothing?

No mom, no mate, no pack, not one friend and then no child.

“She's awake”, a voice says, startling me,

Locking eyes with the most beautiful forest green eyes,

“I'm Eurin, and I'm so glad you're awake” He says with a soft smile,

“We were so worried, but here you are, welcome back to the land of the living”

“You should be hungry. I'll have the maid prepare something good for you to eat”

He says turning to leave,

“Sorry what's your name” Dr Easton asks.

“Penny” I answer timidly,

“Welcome to Night Watch Cove, Penny”.
