I mentally cursed Ashton to hell and back and back to hell. That boy had seriously lost his mind. What was he thinking telling his friends about Stella?
“Oh, look. There’s mama bear.” I heard an amused voice.
I scanned Ashton’s room for the source of voice. Three heads were turned in my direction: heads belonging to the uncrowned bad boys of Bellwood.
I gave them my best glare. My inner protective instincts for Stella were taking a forefront.
“Don’t even think about touching her.” I threatened.
“Or what?” the boy with vibrant blue eyes and elegantly styled dark hair asked, raising an eyebrow. He was Alex, as far as I could recall. He was the most intimidating one in the group. His anger issues were no secret to the student population. He was trying to make me recoil but I refused to back down and met his gaze with equal intensity.
“See this, mom.” The boy who had cute dimples and an equally cute face mocked and picked up Stella in his arms. It was Blake, without doubt. He was the one who had called me mama bear. Blake was the troublemaker, the prankster of the group.
I gasped at his audacity. How dare he touch Stella?
“Wait. Just you wait.” I fumed and looked around my room helplessly.
I needed to be there, in Ashton’s room, for Stella. These bad boys could not be trusted at all. Where was Ashton anyway?
“Relax, Millie. They are just teasing you.”
This time, it was Cameron who spoke. Cameron was the nicest, quietest and the most approachable of them all. He was quite famous among the girls because of his kind and laid back attitude. The rest were a rage among the girls too, but, they were too scary to be approached.
“Move over, guys.” I commanded.
“What? You are goin’ to jump on us?” Alex asked, tauntingly.
“You’ll see. Now, move aside if you value your life.” I warned.
I would have never done what I was about to do, under any other circumstances, even in life and death situation. But, this was regarding Stella and something about the whole situation, made me lose my sanity.
I flung my legs at an awkward angle outside my window and supported myself with my hands on the windowsill.
“Look, you don’t have to commit suicide. We really were kidding.” I heard Blake’s voice.
I rolled my eyes. They were not exactly boosting my confidence.
I scanned the distance between Ashton’s window and mine. It was just a few feet away. Our houses were almost sticking close to each other. But, unfortunately, I had spent all my gym classes sleeping. And, even that short distance looked like a death trap to me.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I couldn’t back away now. These boys would make fun of me for eternity.
“Come on, I will give you a hand.” Cameron’s voice came.
I turned around to see that Cameron’s upper body was leaning outside the window and his hand was outstretched for me to take.
I gave him a grateful smile and took his hand.
Teddies bless Cameron for having such a tall, lean and flexible body.
“Don’t worry, I got you.” Cameron assured me when he saw that I was afraid out of my wits and my one hand was still clutching on to the windowsill tightly.
“You need to let go. Trust me.” he said and with that I released the windowsill. Cameron immediately placed his other hand on my waist. He pulled me inside easily with both his hands.
My eyes were closed the entire time I was in air. As soon as my feet touched the floor, I leaped up and hugged Cameron. He chuckled and patted my back reassuringly.
“What are you doing here, crazy?”
Ashton’s voice broke our hug and my mind returned back to reality. As soon as I recounted the real reason for my frightening experience, my gaze darted towards Stella. She was still in Blake’s arms and she looked…happy. Blake was making funny faces at her and flicking her nose. She was giggling happily and the sound of her giggles was the most amazing sound I had ever heard.
I turned to Ashton who was standing with his arms crossed against his chest, smirking. He was in sweatpants and t-shirt and looked like he had returned from a shower. My eyes involuntarily flicked to the water droplets dripping from his hair, following the trail to his luscious, immensely kissable lips.
My daze broke when I saw his lips twitch. Holy shizballs! He caught me checking him out, again.
I quickly plastered a glare on my face and changed the topic.
“How could you tell them?” I asked, accusingly.
His smirk dropped and he sighed audibly.
“It’s the bro code, shorty.” Alex interjected.
“I am not short, you giant.” I snapped.
“Sure, five foot five inch.” He smirked.
I pinched the bridge of my nose. As if Ashton wasn’t enough in my life, these boys were going to complete the remaining quota of my tolerance.
“What if that unknown pisser doesn’t like this?” I asked Ashton.
“He only cares about authorities. The rest he doesn’t give a fuc- I mean fudge about. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have left a ten months old baby in the care of two teenagers.” Ashton stated.
“You need to take a seat, Millie. There are many things we need to discuss if we want to find who is behind all this.” Cameron said.
It was then, that I looked around Ashton’s room. It was a rock star’s room. Black, purple and white dominated the room. His room was pretty big, the king sized bed was pushed against the wall on one side and the other side of the room was cleared out for the band practice, that’s where all the musical instruments were placed. But, of course, like every teenage boy, his room was messy.
“We need to baby proof this room. It is not safe for Stella.” I said.
“What, the empty pizza boxes will eat her up?” Blake asked in amusement.
“No, but, she can be infected by germs. I don’t understand why boys are so messy?”
“At least, we are not OCD cases like most girls.” Ashton retorted.
“That’s called maintaining neatness, you trashcan.” I bit back.
“Guys, guys,” Cameron interjected, “now is not the time. We have other pressing Matters at hand.”
I huffed and took a seat at the messily made up bed. “What is it you all want to discuss?”
“That you are so annoying and imposing and bossy.” Ashton replied.
“You self-centered, overconfident, egotistical, arrogant, narcissist pig!” I seethed and threw a pillow at his face, which he easily dodged.
“Guys, really?” Alex deadpanned.
“Okay okay fine. I won’t say anything as long as she keeps her hands to herself.” Ashton raised his hands in surrender.
“You delusional mutt, when did I even touch you!” I exclaimed.
“How about the time-” Ashton started but was cut off by a loud ringtone.
My phone’s ringtone. I looked around to see that my phone, which was fully repaired, was now in Stella’s hands, who was in Blake’s hands.
“Oh, Millie, you can thank me later, I repaired your phone.” Blake piped in, “and then gave it to Stella to play. But, this Hailey chick keeps disturbing even after I told her that you are too busy being a mom to talk to her.”
“YOU WHAT?!” I shrieked.
“Geez, shorty. My poor eardrums.” Alex winced.
“Tell me you didn’t. Tell me this is a joke.” I demanded from Blake.
“I could say that it is a joke but then, it would be a lie-”
“You dimwit, she is going to kill me and then, I will come back as a ghost and kill you.” I thundered.
By now, the phone had stopped ringing and Stella was still playing with it.
“Tell her the truth, easy peasy.” Blake said, totally unfazed by my outburst.
“What truth? How many people are we supposed to tell, before everyone finds out, before the unknown pisser gets pissed off and kills my…” I faltered.
“Millie, you need to relax. He won’t do any such thing.” Cameron consoled me.
I clutched my head with my hands. Everything that had built up inside me, things that I suppressed and remained calm about, were finally taking a toll on me. they were catching up with me, asking to be let out.
“Here, you can toss it outside the window. It will make you feel better.”
I looked up to see Ashton holding out a vase to me. Was he serious?
“Don’t tempt me, Ashton. I will seriously do it.” I muttered.
“Do it. I am not kidding.” He said, placing the vase in my hands and maneuvering me towards the window.
I looked at him one last time, he gave me an encouraging nod, and before I could think about it, I hurled the vase outside the window with all my might.
The loud cracking sound was the most satisfying thing for me. I released a loud breath.
“How do you feel?” Alex asked me.
“I feel…free.” I said, honestly.
“So, now that you are free from the risk of a breakdown, we can break a serious problem to you.” Alex said.
I groaned. “What now?”
“Who is going to look after Stella while we are at school tomorrow?”
