20. Hunter

"Where is Jared? I want to meet him" Stacey asked the maid who have been bringing her meals for the past three days.

Ever since that day. Stacey tried escaping making many failed attempts. She tricked the maid to be let out of her room. Fooling the guards guarding her room. Knocking the maid out. She tried everything she could. But she was always found out before she could even reach the door.

From then on Jared kept her locked in her room. She was provided with food and everything she desires to eat but was not allowed to step out of the room.

The maid bow ignoring her ask question walking out of the room. Anyone who enter her room was not allowed to exchange conversation with Stacey. Their future Luna Queen. It was the Alpha kIng order, any one who broke the rule would be severely punished. By their Alpha King.

"At least tell him to met me if he won't let me out" she shouts standing behind the door.

Hunter sigh annoyed standing guard her room. After she had successfully fool a guard and knock a maid out. Jared decide it was best to put Hunter on guard. The only way to escaped for Stacey was through the door. The window was an open invitation only welcoming dead.

"Shut up human" he growls making Stacey flinch. So someone was standing guard her room again.

Human? Only a particular hot headed bulky man calls her that.

Hunter..

"I'm bored would you like for a chat?" Stacey said deliberately aware the man standing behind the door was annoyingly piss with her. Infact from the beginning he never tried to hide his hostility towards her.

"I'm busy to deal with your nonsense human" he said back making her smile. Stacey sits down leaning on the door.

"At least you'll be stuck here just like me.." Stacey was glad she can talk to someone. Or else she felt like she was going insane. Even though she hated socialising. Being stuck alone somewhere she have no clue makes her anxious.

"Do you have a clue why Jared is keeping me cage here? When he won't even come to see me" Stacey whisper putting her head on her knees.

Different scenarios running through her very pessimistic mind. Have Jared finally decided to abandoned her?

Unconsciously she keeps missing him. His touch. His words. His closeness.. everything. The more the days pass by being apart.. the heavier she misses him. Longing and yearning for his presence.

"You should be grateful he's still holding onto you. A mere weak female human. He could have better.. someone worth of him to have the privilege to stand beside him as his partner.." Stacey frown listening to his words.

She could strongly feel Hunter detest the word female. It was not to her knowledge what he mean by the words holding on to her?

"Mere weak female human? Don't you find that rude at some point? Why do you think so?" She said again disturb with his ways of describing her.

"Females are weak who should be submissive in every aspect of her life while males are the dominant one. Who exercise coercive control in the family while the female should obey and comply with him. Men are naturally the decision maker keeping in check and discipline the women. The greatest achievement a female can attain is by rearing pups.. producing powerful strong heirs. Woman are fragile and annoying at some point of time. Hard to understand. Unpredictable at most interval point of time.." Stacey remain silent taking in his every words.

It makes her wonder what environment did he grew up in. A dominant male majority family? An abusive family?

"Humans are evil and cunning.. they think they know about everything since they discover technology.. not knowing what they are destroying" Stacey was confound with Hunter theory on Human. He speaks like he wasn't one.

"I see. You have quite a peculiar way of viewing the world. That's just how you see the world.. many view and understand it in different ways. it's not your fault. Nor am I blaming you for your own view point on women. But I feel you're quite irrational on that. Don't you sometime think or have it ever cross your mind that maybe just a tiny glimpse of chances that.. you may have judge a woman too early. Based only on your own personal view? Or the environment you grew up in?" Hunter frown keeping quite not understanding what Stacey was trying to say.

"Are you single dear warrior?" She asked sighing. He's lucky if he's not she thought.

"I don't see why I should answer that. But I do. I have a partner living with me" she hummed nodding her head even though he can't see her.

"How long have you been together?" Maybe it hasn't been long.

"Five years" he nevertheless replied Stacey back.

Lina and Hunter were both from the same royal pack. Ever since he return back from his training. Completing his training course when he turn nineteen. He was officially given the post of third in command for the royal pack.

The day of his official coronation. He met his mate and immediately claim her. What was his. Not giving her a decision whether to reject him or accept the bond.

"She must be a really kind girl. A woman with a very big open heart. Very positive thinking.. calm and collected. A woman deeply in love with you.. someone who value you deeply. Or she valued the bond you have.. she's a strong woman.." Stacey mutters softly enough for his ear.

"I can't imagine to be in her place. But I truly respect her. She's a woman worthy to be treasure and love.. have you ever wondered why she stayed all this year's?" Hunter gulp not able to think of anything. Concluding it with, Lina was mated with him.

"Does she make your breakfast? Dinner? Prepare your bath? Do your laundry? Keep up with your dissatisfaction? Probably your complaints too? Sometimes bearing your wrath or yells? When she don't deserved that.." Hunter remain silent lost for words. Lina his mate does all the things Stacey mention. Even more satisfying his needs.. and desires.

Stacey frown glancing back at the door.

Did he leave her alone? Her little brain ponder.

"Are you still there?" She asked softly, lightly knocking on the door. Hunter startle lost in thoughts but decides to remain silent. Her words were getting to him.

Giving him a perplex feeling. He shrug it off. Still strong on his theory. Females are submissive and weak. Meant to rear pups.

"How rude. Leaving me alone.. what should I do now..?" He could hear Stacey soft grumpy rumbles.

The day past by quickly before Hunter could notice. Lost in what Stacey have said in the morning for the whole day.

"You can leave now" Jared said standing near the door. Hunter flinch hearing his voice beside him.

"Where is your attention?" Hunter sigh disappoint with himself.

"I'm sorry Alpha King" he apologised gulping. How can he make the mistake of losing in daze when he's on duty?

"You look worn out Hunter. Get home and rest earlier" Jared dismissed a pale looking Hunter. Making him wonder what happened to him.

He lean in on the door of Stacey temporary room. Listening to her soft breathe. Firstly checking if she was awake or asleep.

Turning the door knob softly he enter the room. Slowly walking towards her bed. She was peacefully asleep on the bed. Soft snore escaping her. Looking deep in sleep as she make no movement.

For the past three days Jared had not once missed a single night without visiting Stacey. He stayed by her side watching over his mate. Taking in all till he can sustain enough to survive for a day again.

"Jared Mate will hate us" Alex whimpers in his head curling up into a small ball. Jared is well aware of the consequences but her life is more important and worth then being hated upon.

It may also be a small part of his greed, selfishness. To posses his mate. Own her as his.

"Don't complain in the morning. Take in as much as you can and can't see. When we can" Jared replied him back. The constant whining of Alex trouble him. Adding more headache to his problem.

He reach out his hand touching her cheek. Feeling the tingle on his fingertips. Stacey unconsciously lean in to his touch. Catching his wrist. Nuzzling into his palm.

"Have a good rest my Queen.." he whisper pecking her head.

"Hunter take a seat food is almost ready" Cameron said coming behind him holding a large bowl of soups.

"Is the Alpha King with the Luna?" Amber asked Hunter passing a sweet lovely smile at Cameron. Thanking him for pulling out a chair.

"He's with the human again" Hunter mumble taking a seat on his position. He glance at the empty seat besides him. The seat for his mate.

"Oh.. Lina would be here soon" Amber said making him frown.

"I've informed her. We'll all be having dinner here" she immediately added seeing the confused look on his face.

"I'm sorry. Was I late?" Lina came panting with an apologetic look.

"Worry not. We have not begin yet.. you should take a breathe first" Cameron said passing her a glass of water.

"Thank you.. I was training late and I just make a quick run to the public pack doctor" Lina took the seat besides Hunter. Who keep staring at her without uttering a single word.

They nod giving her an understanding look. They were all aware Lina and Hunter were trying for years to conceive a pup. But there was still no result.

Hunter keep out of their conversation absentmindedly pouring salt in his bowl of meat soup.

"Hunter are you sure about that many amount of salt would be ok?" Cameron said raising an eyebrow at him. Bringing him back to the present.

"Yeah that's why I'm adding salt" he said moody and offended for no reason. Taking a spoonful of soup tasting it. He immediately spilt it out. Coughing.

Lina rub his back. Offering him water.

"Guess not. Do you even know you've almost empty the salt.." Hunter glance at the salt box on the table. He notice the full salt box at its brink was now empty at the bottom.

"Here have this. It's exactly to your taste. Salt and meat just the way you like.." Lina took his bowl of salty soup. Placing a new bowl in its place.

Hunter stared at her pushing aside his bowl and fetching herself a new bowl. He taste the soup. Immediately tensing. It was exact to his taste. Nothing less, nothing more.

He watch her pouring him a glass of fresh soda juice. He always drinks after food.

How can she always remember all the tiny details. Tirelessly. Not giving him a chance to yell at her.

She must be a really kind girl. A woman with a very big heart.

Hunter could not ignore the words Stacey said praising his mate. Things he never try to understand or try to acknowledge it.

"Alpha King the council's members would be coming here today. Words have leak out about the Luna Queen being found. And the fact that she's a Human too.." Cameron informed Jared his schedule and a head up for preparation to handle the council's.

The council's members are a group of ten werewolves. The oldest werewolves alive. They possess no greater power over the Alpha King. But they could also imposed some threat and trouble in the Alpha King decision. Their suggestion and opinions are taken into serious consideration. Sometimes creating a huge heavy burden.

"Prepare to greet them. Hunter warn the warriors at the border and to keep checking the premises every ten minutes. Today might also be another unprepared hectic day.." Jared order rubbing his head exhaustedly.

"Yes alpha king. Should I be on guard at the Luna Queen door?" Hunter asked making both Cameron and Jared look up at him frowning.

"Why do you seem eager to me? Or is it just me?" Jared said narrowing his eyes at him. Hunter eyes widen at his unconscious suggestion.

"No not at all Alpha King. It is my responsibility and duty to protect the Alpha King and Luna Queen" he rushed out the words awkwardly. His first intention was to know about what was bothering him ever since their talk.

"You were pretty against of the idea. Despite the reason before.." Cameron bug in narrowing his eyes at Hunter suspiciously.

Something might have happened for Hunter to be in an awkward position. Cameron also notice Hunter was behaving odd yesterday night.

"I was. But I would have never disobeyed Alpha King orders. I would follow your order anywhere.. just say the words Alpha King" Hunter said. Jared smirk shaking his head. The tease was getting serious.

"No. Third in command I want you to be on guard of your Luna Queen.. specially today. You're whom I can entrust the job with. Someone smart and observant. Skill in fighting. Your the second best fighter after me. I'll be at peace with you standing guard over her" Hunter nod obeying his order.

"Hunter I want you to make sure no one get a scoop of her scent. Anyone who seems suspicious you have my order. Interrogate them or do anything. But keep them away from your Luna Queen. Keep her protected at any cause.. I'll be trusting you with this my best warrior" Jared stood up walking towards Hunter patting his shoulder.

"I won't disappoint you Alpha King. I'll prove it again I'm worth the title of the best warrior" Jared could see the fire burning inside his eyes. He nod back.

"Are your Luna Queen food as I order?" He asked getting back to his desk.

"Yes Alpha King everything is as your order.. from breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Everything is as per your order and strictly check. Only prepared by our most trusted cook and maid" Cameron replied back.

"Good. Make sure you check it again. There can't be any mistakes. Specially with the meats and fruits.. she hates some specify of them" Jared said with a tight smile and a longing eyes.

How he long to be beside his mate. Getting to know her every second as a new day break in. Then in a tight spot, with her safety at risk. Or her trying to escape from him.

"Get back to your position Hunter. Informed me immediately if you spot anything unusual.." he dismissed Hunter getting to work with Cameron besides him.
