After our intimate moments the woods, I laid there with a heavy heart because of the treachery. I felt weak and exposed after Alexa, the person I believed I could trust with my life, abandoned me. The seriousness of what she had done became clear to me. She was dispatched to destroy me, to destroy any danger I might have caused. I was overcome with panic, and my first thought was to telephone for assistance.
I made an attempt to connect mentally with Lara, the lycan princess I had pledged to keep safe. But as I called out in desperation, there was only stillness.
