Chapter Nineteen Sapphire

1231 Words
The young she-wolf jumps as I enter the room and I hear her heart slamming fiercely against her chest. She pulls her knees tightly to her wrapping her arms around them and burying her face. The sound of soft sobs reaches my ears as her body shakes atop the small hospital bed. “I'm not here to hurt you, I'm Amelia, my brother Carter is the alpha of this pack and my mate Isaiah is the Alpha of Scarlett Moon. We’re here to help you,” I explain calmly staying near the door. Vibrant blue eyes peer up at me above her knees and I ease my lips into a soft reassuring smile. “That smile is kinda creepy,” Acacia informs me shaking her head. “Like your big wolfy smile is winning any rewards.” With a roll of her eyes and a derisive snort, Acacia turns away leaving me to focus on the sapphire orbs watching me cautiously. “You have really beautiful eyes,” I compliment her hoping to break through. She puts her head back down shying away from my attempt. “I completely understand if you don't want to talk to me or anyone after what you've been through but I want you to remember how incredibly strong you are.” Her head pops up again and her eyes glisten with unshed tears. She slowly shakes her head no releasing a strangled sob. “I know it may not seem like it now little one but I speak the truth. Not everyone can survive and you are a survivor,” I can feel my own tears welling up as I speak constricting my throat and making my words come out lower. “She is dead because of me,” the girl cries. “Who is?” “My wolf Sapphire.” Her beautiful eyes stare through me and I can feel my heart break knowing the pain and loneliness she's feeling. I was without Acacia for only a few hours and it felt like a lifetime. “I'm so sorry, I wouldn't wish the losing ones wolf on anyone,” I apologize. “I will never be able to find a mate…or…or shift or anything,” she breaks down in to sobs again. I can't help myself this time and cross the room scooping her into my arms as I slide onto the bed. Her body stills becoming stiff as a board as I hold her close to me. My fingers absentmindedly play with her hair smoothing it down her back. Her shoulders soon relax as she eases into me allowing me to comfort her. “I wish I had died with her,” She confesses against my chest. I can feel her hot breaths heavy against my skin as her nose stuffs up from the ears making her sniffle. “Amelia, tell her that her wolf wouldn't have wanted that. We are your protectors, your other half, we gladly lay our lives down so you can live,” Acacia says. I pull away from the girl and gently lift her head so our eyes meet. I repeat Acacia’s words feeling a lump in my throat. She has proven those words to be true many times. “As for a mate little one, he or she is already out there and has been since the day you were created. All you have to do is find them.” “What if they don't want me?” She asks her eyes filling with guilt that does not belong on her shoulders. “Then they are stupid and blind because any wolf would be lucky to have such a brave, strong, beautiful woman on their side,” I assure her. “I wish I could see myself the way you do,” She mumbles. “One day you will just have a little faith, the moon goddess has a plan for all of us.” “I hope she has something terrible planned for those vampires,” She admits. “If she doesn't then we do,” Acacia and I say together. “Amelia we need you out here asap,” Carter links me. “I'm kind of busy,” I reply closing the link. The door opens a moment later and Carter steps inside with Isaiah close behind. The girl whose name I've not managed to get moves so she's hiding behind me. “We have an issue, I think it would be better to discuss it away from ‘her’,” Carter explains his eyes watching the girl as if she might break any second, and with the way she's shaking in fear she might. I nod in understanding and they exit the room. “I have to go but I will be back soon,” I stand to leave and almost make it to the door when I turn back to her, “Before I go can you share your name with me?” “Oh, it's Sarah,” She answers shyly. “Nice to meet you, Sarah.” I leave the room and my smile drops the minute I see the look on my brother's and mates' faces. Isaiah's POV Amelia scurried away from our questions at the first chance she got and to say I'm curious is an understatement. I knew about the wolfsbane unlike her brother and Alpha however I was unaware she planned to use herself as bait for the vampires. “She has been in there a while, you think everything is going well?” Carter asks me breaking the silence. “I hope so,” I sigh knowing Acacia can be a handful. Both our phones ring keeping us from continuing our conversation and I pull mine from my pocket seeing Raya’s name at the top as Carter excuses himself to take his call. “Hello.” “Alpha,” Raya breathes. “Yes?” It comes out as a question. “The vampires have been to the Forest Pack, they were heading out to search for some kissing she wolves when we arrived,” Raya informs me. “Have you spoken to their Alpha yet?” I ask hoping that this issue will help our case. “No,” She says sounding relieved. “I want an update as soon as you speak with him,” I tell her and hang up the phone. Carter comes back into the waiting room his white-knuckled hand clenched tightly around his phone and his mouth set in a straight line. “I take it you just received the same bad news I did,” I guess raising my brow. Carter nods and his eyes glaze over. I know he's mind linking someone and I would bet money it's my mate. When the glaze clears his frown deepens and he turns away walking in the direction Amelia went. I follow close behind almost slamming into his back when he opens the door and stops in his tracks. “We have an issue, I think it would be better to discuss it away from ‘her’,” Carter explains. My mate nods a lock of her hair coming free and falling in front of her face and she turns to the girl hiding behind her. I step away allowing Carter to close the door and we wait for Amelia to come out.
