Amelia’s POV
I never realized how much I could miss my wolf hearing her snarky remarks has become so normal that not hearing them left me empty.
“Yeah, I know we did it for a good cause but I'm not too excited to feel like that again,” Acacia groans.
“I know I'm sorry,” I reply.
“This is like the worst hangover ever,” she grumbles.
“Tell me about it,” I say suppressing a shiver.
My body still didn't feel one hundred percent. I feel like I'm recovering from a horrible cold. I push the door open to the clinic and step into the cool air quickly wrapping my arms around myself. I had left Isaiah in my office working on reforming his pack.
“Good afternoon Amelia,” the doctor greets peering up from her clipboard.
“Morning,” I say.
“Follow me,” she instructs slipping down the hall.
I pad behind her trying to ignore the chill of the air conditioner. Being a werewolf I would normally never be bothered by the chill, it is clear the wolfsbanes effects are still at play.
“How are you feeling today? Any symptoms?” The doctor asks as we step into an empty room.
“Just feeling a little chilly,” I answer honestly although achy comes to kind as well.
“I'd like to get another tube of blood to test today,” she tells me.
“Okay,” whatever you need.
She immediately pulls out three tubes and ties a tourniquet around my upper arm plunging her needle into my vein. One fills and is replaced with the next and the next.
“She’s bleeding us like a stuffed pig,” Acacia growls.
I roll my eyes while she's not wrong I can't admit it to her.
“Alright, all done,” she says untying the rubber strap and placing a bandaid over the small hole filling with blood.
Usually, I would've healed the moment the needle left my arm. The sensation of vulnerability is new.
“When can we try again?” I ask still staring at my wound.
“As soon as your ready,” she says a curious look crossing her face.
If I didn't know any better I would say she enjoys having a test subject.
“She’s definitely enjoying,” Acacia snorts.
I wait until she exits the room and jump off the bed. The nervousness running through me comes out as it always has. My left-hand rests on my hip and my right comes up to my face. I pull my thumb between my teeth biting at the skin around the nail as my feet move into a quick rhythm pacing the small room.
“Stop pacing you're making me nauseous,” Acacia grumbles placing her large head between her front paws.
“Sorry, I just, I don't,” I ramble.
“Spit it out,” she says.
“I don't like hiding this from Isaiah.”
“Then tell him, hell understand.”
“Will he though?” I ask her as much as I'm asking myself.
“You don't know unless you try,” she assures me.
I stop in front of the door and reach for the handle opening it slightly. As I step into the hall I spot Cassie at the check-in desk. She hasn't noticed me yet and I push my shoulders back pretending nothing is wrong. Walking toward her I place a sweet smile on my face.
“Hey Cass, what are you doing here?” I ask.
Her head snaps in my direction and I see my niece Brayleigh snuggled up in her arms as I round the corner.
“Oh,” she starts, and her eyes blaze with the silvery glow I've come to know.
Cassie may not be a wolf but she's closer to the moon goddess than any other creature of the night. She shares her blood and her power.
Her eyes settle down and she blinks away the vision her lips turning in a sympathetic smile while her eyebrows furrow.
“You're not alone Amelia,” she says her hand clasping mine.
My lips part in shock she hadn't received a vision of the future but of the past and she knew.
“I know,” I mumble.
“I hope you do,” Cassie assures me releasing my hand and stepping closer for a hug. She angles Brayleigh’s body away so that we don't squish her although her tiny hand still finds its way onto my arm. The second her fingers brush my skin I can feel my senses heighten and my fatigue drain away. We break apart and I look down at my niece in wonder. All this time we thought Cassie healed Carter and all this time it has been Brayleigh.
Isaiah's POV
Amelia left me alone over an hour ago and in that time I have accomplished nothing. It's like she took my brain with her when she left. I can't focus on my paperwork and every sentence I type sounds like something a child would write. My mind couldn't stop going to Amelia and whatever secret she is keeping.
“She’s going to tell us,” Ishmael yips his long tongue lolling out of his mouth.
“How do you know?” I ask.
“Acacia told me.”
I shut the laptop and place my old packs documents into the file cabinet Amelia lent me. I don't have much aside from treaties and alliances but it's enough to ask for the pack to be reinstated. It will have to wait though, my mate comes first. I won't have a pack without my Luna. Exiting the room I take the stairs two at a time, if she's ready to tell me I want to find her.
I make it to the front door ready to throw the door open when it swings inward almost slapping me in the face.
“Sorry,” Amelia squeals as I move out of the way.
“It's all good beautiful, I was just looking for you,” I say wrapping my arms around her and pulling her to my chest for a soft kiss.
“What did I do now?” she asks her lips curling seductively.
“What haven't you done?” I growl milling her bottom lip.
“Gross,” Carter groans coming in the door.
“Shut up, I don't say anything when you suck Cassie’s face off,” Amelia snarkily replies.
Carter's lips flatten into a straight line and he heads up the stairs without replying.
“Serves him right,” Amelia snickers.
“Come on let's go grab some lunch,” I suggest leading her to the kitchen.
***
After lunch, we head upstairs to Amelia’s office, and she takes a seat on the couch patting the cushion for me to come sit next to her.
I cross the room take a seat and lean back on the couch looking at my mate. I don't want her to regret opening up to me. This is her choice and she can take however long she needs.
“I'm sorry if I've been acting weird,” Amelia says her eyes glazing with unshed tears.
“Baby, don't cry, I'm sorry you feel like you couldn't confide in me,” I tell her pulling her close.
“I do feel like I can confide in you, I want to be able to tell you everything, and I'm going to starting now,” Amelia vows.
