“You don’t look very rested for a man who was on vacation.” I hadn’t had a full-time housekeeper since Theresa left. Anne was one in a rotation of four who came by two days a week. I hardly saw any of them. She was there quite late. “You want a cup of coffee?” she asked. “Or something more soothing, since it’s closer to bedtime?” “I can do coffee.” I stood. “If you’ll join me.” “Don’t mind if I do.” We headed for the kitchen. “Sit.” I pulled out a tall country French chair that matched all the white and steel gray. “Relax.
