I was shocked, too. “Where is everything?”
The shelves were empty, the huge dictionary I’d stood on was no longer under the sofa table. Even the clocks were gone—all but the one I’d given Casey—the one with the little drawers.
“Is Casey switching labs?” Johnny asked. “There’s one on this floor that just became vacant.” He had inside info.
“Maybe.” I set the pizza on the sofa table that brought back fond memories of my first time taking Johnny inside. “We’ll ask him when he gets here.” The urge to further recall that day was strong. “How long can you stay?” I pulled Johnny into an embrace.
