King Avner was roused from sleep when he heard voices.
He opened his eyes. It was still dark but he was able to discern the other companions in the dying embers of the fire. All were still asleep.
King Avner got up slowly. He followed the direction where he heard the voices.
A white fox was standing on a flat rock. A light seemed to be shining from above to illumine her snowy white fur.
They stared at each other. She had intelligent eyes. She seemed to be seeing beyond his blue gaze.
"You're looking for a girl with the golden eyes?" asked a voice seriously.
"You mean... Daphne?"
"Yes, that's her name!" exclaimed another voice excitedly.
King Avner glanced around when he heard the second voice.
"The girl who came with the witch?"
"She is a witch, too!"
