Hilda and the Drill

While Deidre was trying to come to terms with an out-of-action Hilda, Verruca was in her kitchen polishing the surface of her out-of-date table.
Verruca was the most underestimated woman on the planet who, yet again, had the future of the planet in the palm of her gnarled hands.
She had been part of the hippie movement; she’d helped when the digital tidy-up age came into being. She diverted as they copied the written word, hid books, squirrelled away parts of the libraries as they were being torn down. Verruca was a master of diversion, and when the hippies left to set up their new colony, it was she who diverted so well no one noticed.
